After the Golden Globes in January and the Oscar nominations being delayed, many are wondering what films will be nominated for Best Picture at the 2025 Academy Awards.Here's what we think will and will not be nominated.The predictions were made by Megan Camponovo who covers entertainment for Hearst Television’s National Desk, along with other members of the National Desk staff.Locks:“The Brutalist”After winning Best Drama at the Golden Globes, it can be certain that “The Brutalist�� will be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and will probably be the top contender for the prize.“The Brutalist�� stars Adrien Brody, who won Best Actor in a Drama at the Golden Globes, and Felicity Jones. “Emilia Perez”“Emilia Perez�� won Best Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes in January making it another lock-in for a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. This will also be another top contender for the night’s biggest prize. In almost every award show so far “Emilia Perez�� has been the most nominated movie of the entire show, and it will probably follow suit at the Oscars.“Emilia Perez�� stars Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez, who were all nominated in Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories at the Golden Globes.“C�DzԳ���������”“C�DzԳ����������� is the only movie to take over “Emilia Perez�� as the most nominated movie at any award show during this awards season. For that reason, it can be inferred that “C�DzԳ����������� will continue to be highly nominated and earn a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars.“C�DzԳ����������� has an all-star cast of Ralph Finnes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and Carlos Diehz, which also helps its chances of being nominated for the biggest prize at the Academy Awards.“A�Դǰ���”While somewhat losing steam after winning nearly every festival in 2024, “A�Դǰ����� still has some power behind it for it to be nominated for Best Picture. While the chances of it winning are dipping, “A�Դǰ����� still has a lot of love and momentum behind it to get it nominated at the Oscars. Starring Mikey Madison, who was nominated for the role at the Golden Globes, “A�Դǰ����� can be another predicted shoo-in for the Best Picture race. “W���������� As the most highly talked about movie in 2024 and after being nominated at most award shows, it can be inferred that “W���������� will also earn a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars. With stars like Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo also being nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes, the chance for a nomination at the Academy Awards for “W���������� also increases. Likely:“The Substance”While Demi Moore won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy and it is highly likely she will be nominated for the Oscar, the movie itself winning Best Picture is in question. “The Substance�� is a unique movie that leaves every audience member with questions after it's over. This could be a good thing for the film's odds of being nominated for Best Picture, but on the contrary, it could also mean the movie is “too unique�� for the Academy Awards. “A Complete Unknown”Despite the talk surrounding this movie, it has lost steam during awards season. There is still a good chance that it gets nominated due to Timothée Chalamet’s campaigning, however, it is no longer a for-sure nomination for Best Picture.Starring Chalamet as Bob Dylan, it is also unknown if he will even be nominated for Best Actor after he was left out of nominations at some award shows. Longshots:“A Real Pain”Aside from Kieran Culkin, who won Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes, “A Real Pain�� has no motion behind it for it to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. To get nominated there would need to be a sudden push and at this point, it seems highly unlikely.“Dune Part 2”Despite starting 2024 off strong, “Dune Part 2�� has been continuously losing steam in the Best Picture race �� not only at the Oscars but most award shows. It is highly unlikely that “Dune Part 2�� will secure a nomination.
