It鈥檚 a booking struggle 鈥 you book a flight for vacation and even if you think you鈥檙e getting the best deal, a few weeks later, the price drops.
Google is now testing out a free price guarantee program for Google Flights to curb buyer鈥檚 remorse.
Here鈥檚 how it will work: when you鈥檙e on the site, some flights will have a colorful shield icon with a dollar sign. That badge is a 鈥減rice guarantee鈥 meaning Google is confident that the price is the lowest it will get. If it does drop, you鈥檒l get the difference in a refund through Google Pay.
You don鈥檛 need to pay with Google Pay to qualify, that鈥檚 just how you鈥檒l get your money back. If you don鈥檛 have an account, Google will send you instructions on how to do it. You do have to book your flight through the 鈥淏ook on Google鈥 function within Google Flights.
So instead of using the site to find a deal, then clicking through to finish booking on the airline鈥檚 website, you鈥檒l complete the entire transaction within Google Flights.
For right now, you鈥檒l find the most price-guarantee badges on Alaska, Hawaiian and Spirit Airlines flights during this pilot phase but Google says they鈥檙e going to expand to more carriers soon.
