TARIFFS SET TO MOVE FORWARD. AND ALL THIS MONTH, 米兰体育 13. RECOGNIZES ALABAMIANS WHO BROKE BARRIERS AND RAISED THE BAR FOR EVERYONE. ONE OF THOSE EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE. ARTHUR SHORES, BORN IN BIRMINGHAM, THE DRUM MAJOR FOR JUSTICE, GRADUATED FROM TALLADEGA COLLEGE. NOW HE PASSED THE ALABAMA STATE BAR EXAM IN 1937. IT WAS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT IN THE COUNTRY AT THE TIME. HE BECAME THE FIRST BLACK ATTORNEY IN ALABAMA TO REPRESENT HIS OWN CLIENTS IN COURT, AND HIS SUCCESS PUT HIM IN FRONT OF THE U.S. SUPREME COURT, ARGUING THAT BLACK TEACHERS SHOULD BE PAID THE SAME AS WHITE TEACHERS. HE WOULD NOT ONLY WIN THAT CASE, BUT ANOTHER IN THE NATION鈥橲 HIGHEST COURT. WHEN THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA TRIED TO DENY ADMISSION TO AUTHERINE LUCY AND POLLY MYERS DUE TO RACE. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO INTEGRATE BIRMINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS, SHORES HOME WAS BOMBED. HE WENT ON TO MAKE HISTORY AGAIN BY BECOMING THE FIRST BLACK MEMBER OF THE BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL.

Arthur Shores is known as "The Drum Major for Justice." The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity alumnus from Birmingham used his Talladega College graduation as a springboard into the legal field, passing the Alabama State Bar Exam in 1937. He later made history again by becoming the first Black member of the Birmingham City Council.
