Perhaps he knew then that he would turn into the biggest Texas fan around.“We moved to Katy, Texas in 2005,�� Jalen Milroe’s father Quentin Milroe said. “Jalen was only about 3 years old, but his eyes lit up when he saw Vince Young play for the Longhorns. When Jalen watched Vince Young and the Horns win a national championship in January of 2006, he was hooked.”Hooked on the Longhorns, his favorite team just a few hours from home.“How do you say ‘no�� to the GOAT?�� Quentin said.We were talking about Jalen being committed to Texas in 2019 and then receiving the phone call from Alabama in 2020.“When Jalen asked me that question after talking with Coach Saban, I knew that Jalen would flip. He made the right decision,�� Quentin said.While the world’s eyes are on Bama’s new starting quarterback, Quentin has had faith all along.“People forget that when Jalen was in high school, he was a drop-back pocket passer,�� Quentin said. “Jalen has always had a great touch on the ball- it was when he arrived at Bama when he started using his legs more.”Quentin is proud of his son; he’s proud of the things that most of us don’t see.“Jalen’s faith is unwavering,�� said Quentin. “Jalen has needed faith to face the challenges of being a football player at Alabama. Jalen has held onto that faith; he even reads the Bible in the locker room before every game. Jalen will graduate this December with a degree in business and entrepreneurship. He will still have a few years of eligibility at Bama.”Quentin will board a plane soon and head to Tuscaloosa. I reminded him that the Texas Longhorns are not exactly Middle Tennessee.“I have watched this team progress, and I think Bama will be fine this weekend,�� Quentin said. “My son has a calm about him, and so do his teammates.”It sure will be fun watching Jalen play against the team he once loved. But there’s a new favorite team in Jalen’s life, and the players wear Crimson.“Jalen loves Bama,�� said Quentin, adding, “There’s a new team in Jalen’s life.��
