Homewood City Council holding public hearing for Brookwood Village
AROUND AND GETTING READY. IT IS 638. THE ANDREWS SPORTS MEDICINE AND ORTHOPEDIC CENTER COULD BE TAKING A STEP FORWARD. A PUBLIC HEARING IS SET FOR TONIGHT IN HOMEWOOD. ANDREWS WOULD BE MOVING TO THE OLD BELK DEPARTMENT STORE AT BROOKWOOD VILLAGE. AND THAT鈥橲 WHERE WE FIND 米兰体育 13 MYA CALEB AND MYA. THIS WOULD BE A MAJOR DEVELOPMENT FOR THAT NEARLY ABANDONED MALL. YEAH, GUYS, THE ONCE THRIVING MALL HAS TURNED INTO A GHOST TOWN. THE VILLAGE SECTION OF THE MALL COMPLETELY VACANT. BUT THERE MAY BE A NEW HOPE FOR THIS ONCE BUSY MALL. THE CITY OF HOMEWOOD HOLDING A PUBLIC HEARING TONIGHT AT 6:00. THEY WILL BE DISCUSSING TURNING THE OLD BELK DEPARTMENT STORE INTO AN ANDREWS SPORTS MEDICINE AND ORTHOPEDIC CENTER. THE PLAN IS FOR A 135 SQUARE FOOT, 135,000 SQUARE FOOT MEDICAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ANDREWS, INCLUDING A SURGERY CENTER. AND THIS IS A BIG DEAL. ANDREWS SPORTS MEDICINE DRAWS PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, INCLUDING HIGH PROFILE ATHLETES. WELL, MYA LAST YEAR I DID A FULL SERIES ON THE RISE AND FALL OF MALLS ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA AND BRINGING NEW LIFE TO BROOKWOOD VILLAGE HAS CHALLENGES THAT MOST MALLS DON鈥橳 HAVE TO DEAL WITH RIGHT? YES, SCOTT. WHERE I鈥橫 STANDING RIGHT NOW IS IN THE CITY OF HOMEWOOD. BUT IF I WERE TO GO DOWN TO THE OLD MACY鈥橲 AT THE MALL, I WOULD BE STANDING IN MOUNTAIN BROOK. THE MALL WAS BUILT BACK IN 1973, AND THE PROPERTY SPANS HOMEWOOD AND MOUNTAIN BROOK CITY LIMITS. SO ANY CHANGES WOULD INVOLVE BOTH CITIES WORKING TOGETHER OUTSIDE OF THE ANDREWS DEVELOPMENT FOR NOW. BROOKWOOD VILLAGE REMAINS VACANT, WITH LITTLE CONVERSATION ABOUT ITS FUTURE. AND MYA. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY MAJOR DEVELOPMENT THAT鈥橲 GOING TO BE TALKED ABOUT ON THE AGENDA TONIGHT. THERE IN HOMEWOOD. YEAH, THAT鈥橲 RIGHT. AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT, THEY WILL ALSO BE DISCUSSING STANFORD UNIVERSITY鈥橲 PROPOSED CREEKSIDE DISTRICT. AND THIS WOULD BRING RESTAURANTS, BARS, SHOPS AND A HOTEL RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE UNIVERSITY, SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO SHADES CREEK. TONIGHT鈥橲 AGENDA SAYS THEY鈥橪L BE CONSIDERING A REQUEST TO SET A PUBLIC HEARING. AND AGAIN, THAT CITY COUNCIL MEETING IS SET TO START AT 6:00 TONIGH
