On Feb. 10, Bebe Rexha will attend her first Grammys as a nominee for best new artist and best country duo/group performance. It's a big night for her 鈥� and one that has come with an unexpected complication. Rexha said many designers have refused to dress her because she is a size 6/8 and considered "too big" to them.
Rexha posted where she detailed what was happening to her.
鈥淪o I finally get nominated at the Grammys, and it鈥檚 like the coolest thing ever,鈥� Rexha said. 鈥淎nd a lot of times artists will go and talk to designers, and they鈥檒l make them custom dresses to walk the red carpet, right? Like, you go to any big designer. So I had my team hit out a lot of designers, and a lot of them do not want to dress me because I鈥檓 too big. Literally, like, I鈥檓 too big.
"If a size 6/8 is too big, then I don鈥檛 know what to tell you. Then I don鈥檛 want to wear your f***ing dresses because that鈥檚 crazy 鈥榗ause you鈥檙e saying that all the women in the world that are a size 8 and up are not beautiful and they cannot wear your dresses. So to all the people who said I鈥檓 thick and I can鈥檛 wear your dresses, f*** you, I don鈥檛 want to wear your f***ing dresses."
In her caption, Rexha reiterated her point:
"I'm sorry, I had to get this off my chest," she wrote. "If you don鈥檛 like my fashion style or my music that鈥檚 one thing. But don鈥檛 say you can鈥檛 dress someone that isn鈥檛 a runway size. Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel less then by their size. We are beautiful any size! Small or large! Anddddd My size 8 a** is still going to the Grammys. ."
After her post, celebrities, designers and fans commented on Rexha鈥檚 Instagram, offering to design an outfit for her or sending recommendations for designers who would create a look for size 8 bodies.
Designer August Getty said he鈥檇 dress her, writing, 鈥淵ou are beautiful! Every woman of every size is beautiful! Just let me know when I should start sketching.鈥�
Designers Stella Nolasco, Tanya Taylor and Elizabeth Kennedy offered their services as well.
Supermodel and body activist Emme suggested 11 Honor茅, an online boutique offering sizes 10-20. 鈥淒on鈥檛 even waste your energy (or take away any of your joy) on designers who don鈥檛 get it,鈥� Emme commented.
Fans tagged designer Christian Siriano, who is known for dressing celebrities when high-end brands won鈥檛 for similar reasons.
