With Target Circle Week, Amazon Prime Day and Walmart's shopping holiday returning next week, it's crucial to be aware of potential scams while shopping online. Rossen Reports is sharing three common scams to look out for.
Membership scams
In this scam, you鈥檒l get a text or email claiming there鈥檚 an issue with your account or membership, and that you should click a link to update your payment information. Don鈥檛 click that link, because it could be a phishing attempt. Instead, go to the company鈥檚 website directly and log into your account. If there鈥檚 a real issue, you鈥檒l find it there.
Fake social media ads
In this scam, you see a post on social media advertising an amazing deal. It directs you to a website that looks super real, but we know by now that scammers can create fraudulent websites that look legitimate. Always double-check the URL of the website you鈥檙e on, and ensure the URL starts with "HTTPS" to confirm it's secure.
Third-party seller scams
Be mindful of third-party sellers on sites like Amazon, Target, and Walmart. While most are legitimate, some may try to scam you. Always research the seller and read reviews, and never make payments outside the official website. If the seller tries to take you to a third-party platform 鈥 that鈥檚 an immediate red flag you could be getting scammed.
