Birmingham set to host 2025 World Police and Fire Games
The city of Birmingham agreed to give the World Police and Fire Games Federation $2 million on Tuesday to assist with facilitating the event in the Magic City in 2025.
The World Police and Fire Games is scheduled to take place in Birmingham from June 27 through July 6, in three years. The international sporting event is expected to feature more than 10,000 first responders and 1,600 medal matches.
鈥淐oming on the heels of having hosted The World Games 2022, this is yet another exciting event we look forward to welcoming to the great city of Birmingham,鈥� said Mayor Randall Woodfin. 鈥淲e showed the world that we can host an international-level sporting competition with excellence. We are equipped to make sure our brave first responders feel at home.鈥�
The games will include more traditional sports, such as cycling and golf, to unique competitions like the 'ultimate firefighter,' 'toughest competitor alive,' CrossFit, stair climb and dragon boat.
The events, which will be free to watch, will take place at more than 35 venues across the Magic City.
The goal of the World Police and Fire Games is to celebrate the service and dedication of first responders across the world by uniting them in a wide range of events built on competitiveness and comradery.
