Birmingham Water Works hires familiar face as new general manager
GUY AND SHERRY. ALL RIGHT JASON. WELL, TONIGHT THE BIRMINGHAM WATER WORKS BOARD IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. THE BOARD BRINGING IN FORMER GENERAL MANAGER MACK UNDERWOOD TO SERVE UNDER HIS OLD POSITION. 米兰体育 13 ZOE BLAIR CAUGHT UP WITH HIM AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY. ZOE HOW IS HE APPROACHING HIS SECOND TIME IN OFFICE? UNDERWOOD TELLS ME HE HAS THREE BIG PRIORITIES AS THE NEW GENERAL MANAGER, BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE, AUTOMATIC METER READING INFRASTRUCTURE AND MAKING SURE EVERYONE IN BIRMINGHAM WATERWORKS ORGANIZATION IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR WORK. HE鈥橲 BEEN BACK AT THE WATERWORKS CONSULTING FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS, AFTER OFFICIALLY BECOMING THE NEW GENERAL MANAGER. TODAY, HE IS READY TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. WE FACED A LOT OF CHALLENGES SINCE WE鈥橵E BEEN BACK IMPROVING THE OPERATIONS, AND THAT鈥橲 BEEN THE WHOLE FOCUS, AND I THINK WE鈥橰E GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT. THAT鈥橲 RIGHT. SINCE HE鈥橲 BEEN BACK, UNDERWOOD PREVIOUSLY SERVED IN THE EXACT SAME ROLE BEFORE RESIGNING IN 2018. I ASKED WHY HE LEFT IN THE FIRST PLACE. WELL, IT WAS A DIFFERENT BOARD, DIFFERENT TIME. SO IT WAS TIME FOR US TO KIND OF PART WAYS. BUT I鈥橵E ALWAYS KEPT BIRMINGHAM WATER WORKS NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART. NOW, SEVEN YEARS AFTER RESIGNING, HE鈥橲 BACK WITH A NEW BOARD. I鈥橵E NOTICED THE BOARD鈥橲 COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND IMPROVING THE OPERATIONS. AND THOSE ARE SOME OF HIS MAIN GOALS AS HE REENTERS THE ROLE OF GENERAL MANAGER. FIRST THING IS BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE. WE鈥橰E FOCUSED ON MAKING SURE THAT THE METERS ARE READ ACCURATELY. THE BUILDINGS ARE ACCURATELY, AND WE PROVIDE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. HE ALSO HOPES TO CONTINUE REPLACING SOME OF BIRMINGHAM鈥橲 OLDEST PIPES, THE ONES THAT ARE MORE LIKELY TO BURST. WE鈥橰E WORKING ON A SYSTEM THAT HAS OVER 420 MILES OF PRE 1921 PIPE, SO A LOT OF THAT INFRASTRUCTURE IS WORN OUT. WHAT WE鈥橰E LOOKING TO DO IS TO CONTINUE TO REPLACE THAT INFRASTRUCTURE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. ANOTHER GOAL ADDRESSING AN ISSUE THAT HAS PLAGUED THE ORGANIZATION IN THE PAST. JUST MAKING SURE EVERYBODY IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR WORK, WHETHER THAT鈥橲 INTERNAL EMPLOYEES, WHETHER THAT鈥橲 CONSULTANTS, ANYBODY THAT WORKS FOR BIRMINGHAM WATER WORKS, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR DOING THEIR WORK AND DOING THEIR JOB. WE WANT TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE TO IF YOU鈥橰E HAVING ISSUES WITH YOUR WATER BILL OR ANYTHING ELSE IN YOUR COMMUNITY, LET US KNOW. YOU CAN EMAIL US AT 米兰体育.
