3 killed, 3 injured in boat crash on Smith Lake during Major League Fishing tournament
Three men were killed in a boating accident on Lewis Smith Lake Wednesday morning, according to the Cullman County coroner. Three other people were injured.
Joey M. Broom, 58, of Altoona, was killed just after 7 a.m. when the Center Console vessel he was on was struck by a Nitro Bass Boat, according to ALEA. The accident happened near the Miller Flats area of the lake.
Broom was a council member in the town of Snead.

John K. Clark, 44, of Cullman, and Jeffrey C. Little, 62, of Brandon, Miss., both of whom were on board the same Center Console vessel as Broom, were thrown into the water during the crash and drowned.
Their bodies have since been recovered.
Two other men on board the Center Console vessel, Gary W. Holcomb, 51, of Cullman and Luke H. Morgan, 30, of Albertville were injured in the crash and transported to UAB Hospital.
Major League Fisherman Flint Davis, 22, of Leesburg, Ga, who was the operator of the Nitro Bass Boat, was also injured and transported to Cullman Regional Hospital.
鈥淵ou鈥檙e going out and you鈥檙e enjoying a day of fishing and all of a sudden your life鈥檚 taken, or tragedy strikes, and that sucks,鈥� Allen Johnson, with the Alabama Bass Counsel, said. 鈥淲e have so many people on the water, and this was a freak accident. It was one of those things that could happen to absolutely anybody fishing.鈥�

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol is investigating the crash.
