There鈥檚 a brand-new "Charmed" series heading to television this year, and the CW just released its first, super-sized trailer for the supernatural series. The Halliwell sisters are back, but this time they鈥檙e the Vera sisters, as played by Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery.According to a description from the network, the new sisters are 鈥渇irebrand social justice warrior鈥 Mel, 鈥渇un-loving鈥 Maggie and 鈥渂rilliant geneticist鈥 Macy. The show kicks off when their mother, Marisol, dies mysteriously and Macy shows up at their front door, revealing Marisol kept her a secret all these years. Oh yeah, and after Marisol鈥檚 death, they all realize they have powers. Mel can freeze time, Maggie can hear other people鈥檚 thoughts and Macy has telekinesis. It turns out Marisol was a witch who had suppressed her daughter鈥檚 powers and was trying to release those powers the day she was murdered 鈥 by supernatural forces.鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot to take in, but ultimately the sisters accept their new destiny as The Charmed Ones鈥nd their new duty to protect humankind from the demons that walk among us鈥ne of whom killed their mother,鈥 the network teased in a press release. 鈥淲ith the Power of Three, they are stronger together鈥 even if they have no idea what they鈥檙e really up against.鈥 Though the show seems promising, the original cast isn鈥檛 necessarily on board. Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty have spoken out against the idea, especially given the initial promo that it would be a 鈥渇eminist鈥 reboot 鈥 insinuating that the original wasn鈥檛 already super-feminist."Charmed" will air on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on the CW. It鈥檚 unclear exactly when it will premiere, but the network said it鈥檒l be sometime this fall.
