NEWSWATCH SEVEN. TODAY, THE OMAHA CORGI CREW HOSTED CORGI RACING AT RIVER鈥橲 EDGE PARK IN COUNCIL BLUFFS. THE EVENT HELPS RAISE MONEY FOR LOCAL SMALL RUN SHELTERS. THE WINNER OF THIS YEAR鈥橲 RACE WAS AUGUST. ORGANIZERS SAY YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE DOGS WILL DO ONCE THE RACE STARTS, SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT鈥橲 GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THE CORGI. THEY ARE EASILY DISTRACTED, ARE VERY GOAL ORIENTED. WE HAVE ONES THAT GO STRAIGHT FOR THAT FINISH LINE AND WE HAVE SOME THAT WON鈥橳. THEY WON鈥橳 EVEN LEAVE THE STARTER BOX, OR THERE鈥橲 EVEN A COUPLE THAT DO EXTRA LAPS OR THEY JUST GET DISTRACTED AND PLAY. THIS WAS THE FIFTH YEAR FOR THE RACE, AND ORGANIZERS SAY IT鈥橲 GROWN EVERY SINGLE YEAR. THAT鈥橲 AWESOME. YOU CAN鈥橳 BEAT THAT. I MEAN, THAT鈥橲 AMAZING. AND THAT鈥橲 TRUE OF A LOT OF DOGS, RIGHT? The Omaha Corgi Crew hosted the Corgi Racing at Rivers Edge Park in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Saturday. The event helps to raise money for small, locally-run shelters. Corgis from all across the area competed in a series of races to make it to the finals. The winner of this year's race was August.Organizers said you never know what the dogs will do once the race starts. "You never know what's going to happen with the Corgis," Melissa Feekin, social media coordinator for Omaha Corgi Crew, said. "They are easily distracted, are very goal-oriented. We have ones that go straight for that finish line and we have some that won't. They won't even leave the starter box, or there's even a couple that do extra laps, or they just get distracted and play."This was the fifth year for the race, and organizers said it's grown every year.
