According to the National Retail Federation, a record 183.4 million people are planning to shop in-store and online from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday in 2024. “Even though holiday shopping continues to pull forward, some of the busiest shopping days of the year are during the five-day Thanksgiving weekend,�� NRF vice president of industry and consumer insights Katherine Cullen said. “Consumers are prioritizing gift-giving for the most important people in their lives, and retailers are prepared to help customers find everything on their shopping lists at great prices throughout the season.”This number has continued to grow since dropping in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so with this in mind, we thought we’d equip you with the tools you need to maximize your savings during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Memberships on sale for Cyber Monday shoppingBefore you start your shopping, check to see if the brand or retailer is offering a discounted rate on their memberships. For example, Walmart is offering 50% off an annual membership for new Walmart+ members. Additionally, if you’re a monthly subscriber to Walmart+ or used to have Walmart+ but no longer are subscribed, the discount can also apply to you. That 50% off discount not only signs you up for all the perks that come with a Walmart+ membership, but it gives you first access to Walmart’s Cyber Monday deals, ensuring you get a first crack at the deals that non-Walmart+ members won’t have access to right away. Take, for example, this LG 65-inch 4K smart TV we found on Walmart that’s seeing a $300 price reduction ahead of Black Friday. Using Honey’s Google Chrome extension, we’re able to see prices across eight different stores like Newgg, Target, Amazon and even LG’s own website. According to Honey’s price tracking tool, their top pick is Walmart because of the depth of the deal, but they also alert you to coupons and potential cash back opportunities. Don't forget about gift cards We know that gift cards can make for a great holiday gift, but be on the lookout for savings on those gift cards during Cyber monday sales. In 2023, we found numerous gift cards on sale at multiple retailers like Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Costco and Sam’s Club.
