Great news, dog lovers - your furry friends are brainier than their feline counterparts, according to research from Vanderbilt University.The study is the first to count the number of cortical neurons inside the brains of different carnivores. These nerve cells are associated with thinking, planning and complex behavior.Canines have more neurons in their cerebral cortices than cats, with about 530 million, compared to about 250 million in cats. The human brain contains about 16 billion.The study also said dogs' brains contain more neurons than hyenas, lions and some bears.
