Elvis Costello, 63, has canceled the rest of his European tour in order to recover from cancer surgery The musician revealed he has been diagnosed with a 鈥渟mall but very aggressive cancerous malignancy鈥� and underwent surgery to remove the tumor recently. He is canceling concert dates in Croatia, Austria, Norway and Sweden after his doctor ordered him to rest.
Costello wrote on his website that normally, patients who undergo this type of surgery can get back to normal after three or four weeks, but most people aren鈥檛 performing every night on a world tour. 鈥淭he spirit has been more than willing but I have to now accept that it is going to take longer than I would have wished for me to recover my full strength,鈥� he wrote. 鈥淭herefore, I must reluctantly cancel all the remaining engagements of this tour.鈥�
He also revealed he will release a 鈥渕agnificent new record鈥� with The Imposters and 鈥渟everal of our other friends鈥� this October. reports Costello had already announced a North American tour, to begin in November.
noted Costello didn鈥檛 mention his type of cancer, but alluded to it with a message to his male fans 鈥� 鈥淕entleman, do talk to your friends 鈥� you鈥檒l find you are not alone.鈥� And he ended his message encouraging his fans to talk to their doctors if they are feeling unwell. 鈥淚t may save your life,鈥� he wrote. 鈥淏elieve me, it is better than playing roulette.鈥�
