Federal and local agencies announce arrests in "Glock switches" operation
An operation into illegal "Glock switches" has led to four arrests in the Tuscaloosa area.
The announcement was made on March 6 during a news conference with the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Tuscaloosa Police Department, Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office.
鈥淧ossession of a 鈥楪lock switch鈥 by an individual is a threat to the peace and safety of our communities. Our hope is that these arrests and continuing enforcement efforts across North Alabama will have a deterrent effect,鈥 said U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona. 鈥淥ur ongoing collaboration with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners is instrumental in reducing violent crime and removing illegal firearms from our communities.鈥
The illegal machine gun conversion device, commonly referred to as a "Glock switch" enables a handgun to operate similarly to an automatic weapon.
鈥淭his operation demonstrates the effectiveness of working together to confront a growing threat to public safety,鈥 said Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley. 鈥淐ombining resources to enforce and prosecute offenders is the most effective way to stop the threat before it becomes more widespread.
