AT FOUR, THE NEWS AT FIVE STARTS NOW. THIS IS 米兰体育 13. BREAKING NEWS IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. A MAN ARRESTED, SUSPECTED IN THREE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATIONS OVER A MATTER OF DAYS IN BIRMINGHAM. THAT INCLUDES THE MASS SHOOTING IN FIVE POINTS SOUTH. WE鈥橵E BEEN FOLLOWING THIS STORY FOR WEEKS. IT鈥橲 BEEN A LITTLE OVER THREE WEEKS SINCE THIS HAPPENED IN THE FIVE POINTS SOUTH AREA AT HUSH LOUNGE. 米兰体育 13 GLADYS BAUTISTA WAS AT THE NEWS CONFERENCE THIS AFTERNOON WITH BIRMINGHAM POLICE CHIEF SCOTT THURMAN. HE SPOKE TO THE MEDIA AND UPDATED US ON WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THOSE INVESTIGATIONS. SEVERAL INVESTIGATIONS ARE COVERING AT THE SAME TIME. YEAH, AND HE ALSO TALKED ABOUT HOW MORE THAN 300 TIPS IN TOTAL THROUGH CRIME STOPPERS AND TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, REALLY HELPED IN DETERMINING WHAT THEY NEEDED TO DO TODAY. CAN YOU GIVE US AN UPDATE ON EVERYTHING YOU LEARNED THIS AFTERNOON? LOCKHART MCCANE. YEAH, WELL, ABOUT AN HOUR AGO. WE HAVE LEARNED THAT JUST AFTER THREE WEEKS SINCE THE MASS SHOOTING IN FIVE POINTS SOUTH, POLICE HAVE FINALLY MADE AN ARREST IN THAT. AND IN TWO OTHER HOMICIDES THAT THEY SAY HAPPENED ALL WITHIN A MATTER OF DAYS. TAKE A LOOK AT THE SUSPECT THAT THEY SAY RIGHT NOW IS CONNECTED TO THREE SEPARATE HOMICIDES, INCLUDING THAT MASS SHOOTING. THIS IS DAMIAN MCDANIEL, THE THIRD. HE鈥橲 CHARGED WITH KILLING MULTIPLE PEOPLE. AS I MENTIONED IN JUST A MATTER OF DAYS. NOW, LET鈥橲 DO THIS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER FOR YOU ON SEPTEMBER 19TH. MCDANIEL IS NOW CHARGED IN THE MURDER OF ANTOINETTE BROWN AT A LOUNGE ON NINTH STREET NORTH. POLICE SAY THAT BROWN WAS AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER. TWO DAYS LATER, ON SEPTEMBER 21ST, POLICE SAY MCDANIEL WAS ONE OF WHAT MAY POSSIBLY BE MULTIPLE SHOOTERS WHO SHOT INTO A CROWD OF PEOPLE STANDING OUTSIDE HUSKE LOUNGE, KILLING FOUR AND INJURING 17 OTHERS. NOW, THIS ROCKED THE CITY. POLICE VOWED THEN THAT THEY WOULD FIND THOSE RESPONSIBLE. HE IS THE FIRST PERSON TO BE CHARGED FOR THAT SHOOTING AND FOR THAT HE FACES CAPITAL MURDER OF TWO OR MORE PERSONS AND 17 COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED MURDER FOR THOSE THAT WERE INJURED. THE NEXT DAY AFTER THAT SHOOTING, SEPTEMBER 22ND, MCDANIEL IS ACCUSED IN THE DEATH OF JAMARCUS MCINTYRE ON 81ST PLACE SOUTH, FOR WHICH HE FACES ANOTHER CAPITAL MURDER CHARGE. THREE OTHERS ARE ALSO CHARGED IN MCINTYRE鈥橲 DEATH. HERE鈥橲 WHAT THURMAN SAYS ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF WORK AND COOPERATION THAT WENT INTO THESE ARRESTS. THE NUMBER OF HOURS THAT HAVE BEEN PUT INTO THIS INVESTIGATION IS IS ASTRONOMICAL. BUT I REALLY APPLAUD THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE TO TO GET IT DONE. I MEAN, THEY鈥橵E THEY鈥橵E WORKED DAY AND NIGHT FOR THREE AND A HALF WEEKS. SO IT鈥橲 JUST TREMENDOUS. THAT. HERE鈥橲 A STATEMENT FROM MAYOR RANDALL WOODFIN THAT HE POSTED WITHIN THE LAST HOUR. HE SAYS AFTER THE HORRIFIC SHOOTING AT FIVE POINTS SOUTH, WE VOWED THAT OUR PRIORITY WOULD BE TO FIND, CAPTURE AND ARREST EVERY PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS HEINOUS AND BRAZEN MASS SHOOTING. In just 72 hours, police say a Jefferson County man carried out three deadly shootings that claimed the lives of six people and left dozens more injured.During a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond announced that 22-year-old Damien McDaniel had been arrested and charged in the mass shooting on Magnolia Avenue in Birmingham's Five Points South neighborhood.Video above: Birmingham Police Department's press conferenceMcDaniel has also been charged in connection to two additional deadly shootings in the days before and after the mass shooting.The first shooting happened just after 8 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the 604 Bar & Lounge on 9th Street North, according to the Birmingham Police Department. Upon arrival, officers entered the bar, where they found 35-year-old Diontranet Tinae Brown suffering from a gunshot wound.She was taken from the scene with life-threatening injuries and later died at UAB Hospital. McDaniel is charged with her murder.Just a few nights later, on Sept. 21, gunfire erupted outside Hush, a hookah and cigar lounge, killing four people and leaving 17 others injured. McDaniel has been charged with capital murder and 17 counts of attempted murder.The following night, officers responded to the South Eastlake area in response to a Shot Spotter alert.Officers arriving at the scene found 32-year-old Jamarcus McIntyre lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Officers also located a woman suffering from a gunshot wound in a nearby front yard. She was taken to UAB and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. An injured adult male also arrived at St. Vincent鈥檚 East by private vehicle.McDaniel is charged with capital murder and three counts of attempted murder in that case. Three additional suspects, Demarco Beck Jr., 29, Ny鈥橯uan Lollar, 22, and Larry Rollins, Jr., 31, face additional charges ranging from capital murder to trafficking heroin. Earlier this year, Rollins was found not guilty in the 2021 murder of Eric Sledge Jr. According to court records, Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton was set to be called as a witness in the shooting before he himself was shot and killed inside BFRS Station 9 last year."After the horrific shooting at Five Points South, we vowed that our priority would be to find, capture, and arrest every person responsible for this heinous and brazen mass shooting,' said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin. "We told you this is what we鈥檇 do, and this is what we did. McDaniel is charged with capital murder and three counts of attempted murder in that case. Three additional suspects, Demarco Beck Jr., 29, Ny鈥橯uan Lollar, 22, and Larry Rollins, Jr., 31, face additional charges ranging from capital murder to trafficking heroin.

Earlier this year, Rollins was found not guilty in the 2021 murder of Eric Sledge Jr. According to court records, Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton was set to be called as a witness in the shooting before he himself was shot and killed inside BFRS Station 9 last year.

"After the horrific shooting at Five Points South, we vowed that our priority would be to find, capture, and arrest every person responsible for this heinous and brazen mass shooting,' said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin. "We told you this is what we鈥檇 do, and this is what we did. Today was a major step toward justice."

Police are unsure if there are any other suspects in the mass shooting besides McDaniel at this time.
