What is your perspective of appreciation? Heading into the Iron Bowl this year? I'm just thrilled to be alive, Britney. I'm just happy to be here. Ring the bell for the end of my chemo. And I was so excited that I pulled the clapper off the bell and I go *** sound echoing Eli Gold's own victory after months of facing *** tough opponent, cancer, everything that has gone on has been *** way for me to appreciate how good I have it. Brian Denny stadium here in Tuscaloosa. It is *** gorgeous day. His voice resonates. I'm Eli Gold. Instantly familiar and comforting for fans for well over 30 years. This has been an interesting insight into the quarterbacking story, the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide. That's where I live. I live in the broadcast booth. I've been broadcasting since I was 16.5. Your life. My whole life. Eli's voice has been *** part of that for *** long, long time, just one short year ago. Instead of walking into Bryant Denny's Stadium for the Iron Bowl, the broadcast legend was lying in *** hospital bed trying to figure out what was seriously wrong with the mic in good hands. Mr Gold dialed in. I'm Chris Stewart filling in, of course, for the Voice of the Crimson Tide. Eli. So thrilled to be part of the broadcast. You know, I haven't really mentioned this much, but today was one of my goals. I really wanted to be able to get back on the air to do the Iron Bowl. That goal didn't work out and Eli had much more to worry about than missing *** football season. Take me back to that night. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I was sitting right here in this chair watching television as routine. He went off to bed and his world literally changed overnight. I could not move my legs. It took months of doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. It was December 23rd of last year. You know, Merry Christmas, Eli, you got cancer 243 days at the hospital. They told my wife and daughter *** couple of times. You know, you wouldn't want to leave the hospital tonight. He may not make it until the morning, 18 weeks of chemo until that bell ringing and back to the broadcast booth for home games this season doing the, the all the games at home. It's been the best medicine I could have had when something like that in life happens, health becomes the most important thing. Something you don't, you don't think about on *** daily basis when, when you're ok. Everybody needs to think about it if you do not have your health, right? Folks, you don't have anything you don't for Eli, the Iron Bowl is more than *** broadcast. It's *** triumph, *** touchdown and *** testament to the true broadcasting icon that with persistence, *** strong team and unwavering support. *** story can turn around even when the odds seem stacked against you. There is *** genuine feeling of once you are *** member of this Crimson and white family, you are family forever. I love it. I love him.
