Golden Comeback: Announcer Eli Gold's return to the Iron Bowl
Eli Gold鈥檚 voice is familiar and comforting to Alabama fans. How could it not be after echoing play-by-play through the radio for over three decades?
But last year, the legendary announcer faced an opponent far fiercer than any on the field 鈥 cancer. Now, after a tough battle and successful return to the broadcast booth for home games, Eli Gold is set for a monumental comeback: calling the Iron Bowl in Auburn.
In a heartfelt conversation with 米兰体育 13鈥檚 Brittany Decker, Eli shared his emotional journey over the past several months.
"I was just too stubborn not to recover. I had too much I wanted to do yet too many things I wanted to see. I love life," Eli confessed, to Decker.

Ringing the bell for the end of chemo was a momentous victory, he even added his signature exclamation of "Roll Tide!"
He was so excited that he actually pulled the clapper off the bell.
He had spent 243 days in the hospital.
His return to the broadcast booth for home games was more than a professional milestone; it was a vital part of his healing.
"Doing all the games at home... It's been the best medicine I could have had," Eli remarked.
He said that there is a genuine feeling that once you are a member of the Crimson Tide family, you are a member forever.
