The measure, which passed in all five of the city's wards, bring forth the following changes:
- The number of city councilors will be decreased from 11 to 4
- The number of wards in the city will be decreased from 5 to 4
- The city's mayor will hold a dual-role as council president
- The city council will appoint a city manager to oversee daily operations
Prior to the vote, some residents voiced concerns that they would not be properly represented by just four city councilors.
"This will not accurately reflect Homewood,鈥 said resident Stuart Franco. 鈥淩osedale, West Homewood, Hollywood, Mayfair, Edgewood 鈥 these are all different parts of our community. They need their own representation.鈥

Homewood City Council President Alex Wyatt who supports the restructuring, stated it would maintain as much consistency as possible across wards. 鈥淩educing it to four wards, we made the least amount of changes to the current map, which is a significant advantage,鈥 said Wyatt.
The new form of government will take effect Nov. 3, 2025.
