A blast from the past: Homewood school opens time capsule from 2000
Twenty-five years after filling a time capsule with some of their most prized possessions, alumni of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School returned to see what they had left behind.
Photos, a yearbook, Pok茅mon cards and a newspaper were among the items filling the tin. Principal Mary Jane Dorn said she remembers making the time capsule.
"I've been here for over 30 years, but 25 years ago, I was an eighth grade homeroom teacher, and I have seen former students come through with their children. It's been a wonderful thing to be here," Dorn said.

Many former students filled the gymnasium at OLS to see what they had put inside.
"I remember vaguely, but I don't remember what was put in there," Meghan DiGiorgio said. "I do remember a big pep rally for decade celebrations, going through the decades, but not an actual item, unfortunately."
DiGiorgio was in eighth grade in 2000. She was surprised to see some of the items are still popular today.
"The most surprising thing is the Pok茅mon card, I think, because that is coming back big time, and I kind of forgot about it," she said.
Now that the current students have seen the past, they are looking toward the future.
"A lot of the middle school students were asking, 'Can we do a time capsule?' So I think that's something we're really going to consider," Dorn said.

If that happens, for a second time this century, DiGiorgio will help decide what to put in the time capsule, but this time, her children will get the final say.
"There'll probably be some repeats since it seemed like that was coming back again, but it'll be really nice to see that in 30 years or 25 years from now, their kids can probably put something in that's exactly the same," DiGiorgio said.
