I Dream Big Charter School breaks ground at Stillman College
Ground was broken Tuesday on the new I Dream Big Charter School located on Stillman College's campus, marking the first charter school-HBCU partnership in Alabama.
The school will offer college-level courses and provide students with workforce opportunities. Founder and executive director Angela Lang hopes it also teaches students the value of community engagement.
"It allows our students to demystify the idea that college is difficult or that they can't obtain a college degree," Lang said. "It also puts them in the middle of their community to help them understand the importance of being community-centered."

Set to open in August, I Dream Big Charter School will welcome students in grades sixth through eighth, adding a grade level each year.
Students are already signing up to join the school. Rachel Odom Grice's 11-year-old daughter will enter the sixth grade there when the school opens in August.
"As soon as I saw they were signing up people, I was like, let me talk to my husband because I would love for Bria to be a part of this," Odom Grice said.
She's also hoping the school will bring new opportunities to West Tuscaloosa.
"I think everyone deserves the opportunity, no matter what side you live on, but it's definitely overlooked here," Odom Grice said. "I think things are only going to get better as they bring this new opportunity to this side of town, I hope that more people follow through and have their kids to come here, but also more businesses as well, so we can build it back up."
