鈥業'd be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one': Alex Trebek reflects on cancer diagnosis 1 year later
鈥楯eopardy!鈥 host Alex Trebek announced Wednesday he had reached the one year survival mark since he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
鈥淭he one-year survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer patients is 18%,鈥 Trebek said in the video announcement. 鈥淚'm very happy to report I have just reached that marker.鈥
The beloved game show host revealed last March that he had been diagnosed with the disease. The 5-year survival rate for those with Trebek's kind of cancer is just 9%, according to the American Cancer Society.
The 79-year-old said the last year hasn鈥檛 always been easy.
鈥淣ow I'd be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one,鈥 he said. 鈥淭here were some good days but a lot of not-so-good days. I joked with friends that the cancer won't kill me; the chemo treatments will.鈥
Trebek said that the support from his family and his fans has pushed him through the dark days. Trebek鈥檚 oncologist is predicting they鈥檒l be celebrating his second-year survival anniversary.
鈥淵ou know something, if I, no, if we 鈥 because so many of us are involved in this same situation 鈥 if we take it just one day at a time with a positive attitude, anything is possible,鈥 he said.
