Memorial Crusade for Justice honors Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton

Memorial Crusade for Justice honors Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton
Ok, good afternoon and welcome to the press conference and community service for who should. Ok. Yeah, Jordan E Melton Memorial. We welcome you here today and we will be having uh open prayer by Chris Erskine. Is Chris Erskine available? Councilor Erskine. It's not pastor Erskine has not made it. So I'm pastor Pina, the pastor of abundant harvest church. Let's pray. Father, we honor you, we love you, we give you praise. We thank you, Father God for your awesomeness. You are such *** great God. You are wonderful. You are mighty and you are powerful. Father. I ask Lord God that as we go forth with this press conference that you will let the ears hear what needs to be heard. Let the mouth speak, what needs to be said? We ask that you Lord God bring us together on one accord so that we can celebrate and also we can move forward in the things of God. We ask that you bless this mother as she is continuing to grieve. But God, we ask that you let there be peace on earth and let it begin with us. So God, we come against the spirit of violence that is plaguing our city. And we know Father God, there's nothing too hard for you. And so Father God, as we move on today, we ask that you be glorified even in this, we want you to have your way touch, heal and deliver in this place. And God, we're gonna give you all the praise and every participant. We want them to walk in the glory of God in Jesus name. We do pray. Amen. Amen. Next, we will have remarks by Rochelle Gaston Malone. You know. Yes. Yeah. Good afternoon. When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but fear to evil doers. Proverbs 2115. My son Jordan E Milton firefighter with Birmingham fire and rescue was shot while on duty at fire station nine on Wednesday, July 12th, 2023 five days later, Jordan died after eight months. I am told there still are no tips, no leads, no suspects. I am grateful to almighty God and great allies for the strength to become proactive in the pursuit of justice for Jordan with one, the creation of the Jordan E Milton memorial crusade for justice and to the establishment of Jordan's Bulls Eye on Murder Go Fund me. These are to secure resources for *** private investigation and reward network to get justice for Jordan now and others in the future and to host year-round community awareness and empowerment events which is kicking off tomorrow Wednesday, February 28th 2024 with the Jordan E Melton Memorial Safety Summit for Youth here at the *** G Gaston Boys and Girls Club. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Jordan. We will not rest until this journey for justice is won. I want to thank you all again for joining us today and May God guide and direct us all. I'm available for the press after our closing prayer and I wanna let you know that the orange ribbons represent Jordan's favorite color as well as our optimism and faith to enlist in this movement. For more information, speaking or interview request, contact me Rochelle Gaston Malone at Jordan's Bulls eye on murder at gmail.com or you can call me at 2058137760. Thank you so much. Ok? Let us pray, powerful, loving, holy and gracious God. We bless you God, we honor you, we love you, we thank you and God, we give you praise. We thank you, Father God for your word that says where there is unity, there is strength. And so Father God, we want to come together as *** unified body to combat violence in our area. And God, we ask for God that you not only let there be justice for Jordan, but for every unsolved murder. Lord God, we ask that you let people come forth like never before. If you see something, say something. And so father, we know that there are people, people that know some answers. We know that there are people that know some suspects but they're afraid. But God, you did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of *** sound mind. So we're gonna pull down the stronghold of martyrs in the name of Jesus. And we're going to cover our city with prayer. We're gonna cover our city with peace. We're gonna cover our city with love. And God, we ask that you let justice be served. Cover Lord God, touch the crying, mothers, touch the crying. Fathers touch the siblings that are hurting. And God bring those murderers into subjection like God under the holy ghost like God, bring them to repentance or God and let them fall on their knees saying I repent and I wanna be saved, I repent and I want to get it right. I repent and I want to do better bring us to repent us for God and we're gonna bless you. We're gonna honor you bless this woman of God as she is still hurting from the loss of her child. And God, we ask her to cover her in her endeavors, be with us for God, she and protect us for God. Keep us safe as we leave this place, but never from your care in Jesus precious name. We do pray. Amen. Amen and amen. Ok? No father, I know why you ask. Thank you for joining us to be *** part of the Jordan E Milton Memorial crusade for justice, learn more, speaking and interview request, Rochelle Gaston Malone Jordan Bull Eye on Murder at gmail.com 2058137760. Thank you. Ok. Ok. There I'm done. She is going to take questions from the audience. So and the media. Oh, the media only. Ok. She's here to to take questions from the media. Thank you all so much for coming out and supporting. Yeah. How frustrated are you that there has been no rest, no tips, no leave and why I'm extremely frustrated. Um The journey alone in this having to um deal with the loss of your child before preceding you in death and then in the way that it was done, he was at work doing *** service for the city to service the lives of others in need and his life was taken from him. So it's frustrating not to know anything. Why that is that would be *** question for the Police Birmingham Police Department of all the events and honors that you have planned for tomorrow at the Safety Summit. Can you highlight some of the ones you're looking forward to most and why these events stood out as things that need to be made available? Sure tomorrow would have been Jordan's 30th birthday and before he passed, neither of us knowing that it was going to take place in one of our last conversations Jordan had expressed to me as he was pursuing answering *** call in ministry, his place in ministry, finding his place in ministry that he had *** desire to mentor young men, young men that had lost their way in the path of righteousness or young men that seem to be headed down the wrong path, hadn't quite gotten there yet. And with that thought, the Holy Spirit said, purpose for the pain, purpose through the pain. And so the summit is an opportunity to empower youth boys and girls to provide some purpose to this pain and to also carry out his desires, his dreams of how he would have been used if man's plan did not intercept or interrupt that plan the most, the thing I'm looking forward to the most. Um it's *** safety summit because he was fire and fire and rescue. So there will be um safety presentation from the fire and rescue here in Birmingham. There will be *** gun safety presentation from Birmingham Police Department. And then there is going to be *** conflict resolution presentation. And I think that's the one that is most dear to my heart because it's an opportunity for these young young boys and girls to hear another um to have an op another opportunity to hear, to hear words of advice that would provide them new responses and new reactions to their heart. I believe that people that do this, regardless of what the situation may be, they act out of hurt and responding to that hurt or that pain and it might not be the actual incident, it could be something deeper that they're dealing with. And so as *** former educator, I feel we need to reach that deep place within our Children so that we can come back, this, this evilness that is taking, trying to take root. I will not speak that it is taking root, it is trying to take root in our youth. Tell me about or tell us about what you have in mind for *** private investigation. What would that look like? That's something that is going to be discussed and dealt with in the future. So at this time, I, I don't, I don't have any, I can't comment on that. I just what the past eight months have been like for you without extremely um challenging to say the least. Um I like to use words that promote positiveness in the, in the midst of *** um dire dreary situation. So I would, I would say challenging, I'm trying to learn how to navigate life with the understanding and knowing that I will never ever see him again. Here on this side. It's been *** lot of ups and downs my faith in God is sustaining me. I understand how his grace works and I have ***, an an abundant grace account with him and that's what I am living off of. I'm withdrawing from that account right now. So what you see before you is the the evidence of God's grace as I stand here before you and as I talk to you, the last eight months have been filled with sickness. I am *** multiple sclerosis patient. I do play my full and complete healing. Um In Jesus name, I was diagnosed in 2010, 2011, I had *** relapse that caused me to be paralyzed on my right side. I was told I would not walk without assisted devices, but God told me total restoration and healing. I have been without treatment and in re since 2021 and I have not had *** relapse since 2016. I relapsed within this past eight months. You see this but I relapsed. I was in the hospital um right before Thanksgiving and I am about to embark on another journey of treatments, but God is still good. It's because of the stress of and the impact of this incident, how it's being handled, not handled that has caused me to have to deal with those things. So the last eight months have looked totally different from what I could have ever imagined. It would be. I'm sorry, I'm I'm listening to you spoke about getting invested and you just said the stress of handle and not be. And I wanna ask you, they must of course the investigation from the Birmingham Police Department. How do you feel, do you feel that they've given you answers and support considering that he was one of us as *** person. I feel that I have been given answers um that are um conducive to an investigation. Anything else outside of that? You would need to ask the Birmingham Police Department? You know, I mean, I just wanna make sure that you. Yeah, thank you. Thank you. We spoke after Jordan's funeral. One of the things he said he was looking down and smiling, he would be the right. What do you think he'd say to the young boy and girl here in this community? What do you think is for me? That's my mom. You go girl, that's what he would say. That's what he was saying. He said, you know, um Jordan was not ***, *** public person, but he would give you the shirt off his back. Um He made sure that the persons that were dear to him in his life that they were well taken care of. And so um I made that statement about the funeral because it was done in such *** grand way that I didn't even expect um that he would say y'all are doing the most, you know. Um But in these efforts, I feel like he would say, you know, that's my mom. She, she's *** bad girl. Y'all better. Listen, she's on *** mission and she's going to accomplish it. Thank you. No, she, she's finished. If there is no more questions, if there is no more questions from the audience, then this will conclude of the press conference. And thank you all so much for coming out to support MS Melton in her efforts to um um have the Justice Foundation for her son.
