Firefighters respond to brush fires believed to have been set intentionally
Fire crews stayed busy battling multiple brush fires during the weekend.
The Hueytown Police Department reported several fire departments were on the scene of brush fires on Feb. 25.
The HPD said Johns Road was closed from Virginia Lane to the Transfer Station due to the fires happening in the area.
The intersection of Johns Road and Powder Plant Road was also closed, but have been reopened.
The Hueytown Fire Department said there appeared to be about a dozen origin points to the brush fires, and they suspect someone intentionally started the fires.
The HFD stated there were homes in the area, and firefighters are working to protect those structures.
The Alabama Forestry Commission reported the Johns Road fires had burned about 50 acres, as of the late afternoon.
Also during the day, Trussville firefighters were battling a brush fire on Edwards Lake Road and that road was closed, but reopened just before 5 p.m., said the Trussville Police Department.
The Alabama Forestry Commission reported 28 active brush or woods fires in Alabama Sunday afternoon, several of them were in Jefferson and Talladega counties.
