The Nickelodeon show that gave every '90s kid the heebie jeebies growing up is officially hitting the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Are You Afraid of the Dark? is being made into a movie, and Paramount Players, a division of the movie studio Paramount Pictures, has hired It writer Gary Dauberman to write the script and produce the film."The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones,鈥� Dauberman, who also wrote Annabelle: Creation, told THR. 鈥淲e're going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves.鈥漈he anthology series premiered on Nickelodeon on Halloween of 1990 (how appropriate), and was such a success that it aired for ten years until 2000. In each episode, a group of kids who called themselves 鈥淭he Midnight Society鈥� would gather around a campfire to tell scary stories about haunted houses, creepy clowns, vampires and other spooky creatures.
