Pair of Alabama swimmers look to make their dreams come true at U.S. Olympic trials
SUMMER OLYMPICS IN PARIS GET UNDERWAY. AND TWO UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA SWIMMERS ARE HOPING TO PUNCH THEIR TICKETS TO PARIS THIS WEEKEND WHEN THEY COMPETE IN THE US TRIALS. 米兰体育 13 S JULIAN MITCHELL SAT DOWN WITH THE PAIR TO TALK ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD MEAN TO MAKE THEIR DREAMS COME TRUE. IT鈥橲 THE CULMINATION OF THOUSANDS OF LAPS. OH MY GOSH, I鈥橫 JUST LIKE OVER THE MOON RIGHT NOW FOR KYLE AND WINTER FOR SUCH AN EXCITING TIME. NOT ONLY FOR ME, BUT JUST THE TEAM. THE CLOCK TICKING, GETTING CLOSER TO THE US OLYMPIC TRIALS. IT鈥橲 THE SECOND TRIP FOR WINTER, WHO HAD 18, TOOK SIXTH JUST TO RETURN TO THAT IS JUST SOMETHING THAT鈥橲 BEEN REALLY MOTIVATING ME THROUGHOUT THIS SEASON, AND IT鈥橲 BEEN SOMETHING THAT鈥橲 REALLY LIKE INSPIRED ME TO KEEP PUSHING, EVEN WHEN, YOU KNOW, WHEN TIMES ARE HARD THERE. SHE GOT TO BE AROUND FELLOW ALABAMA SWIMMERS RYAN WHITE AND KINSEY MCMAHON, GETTING TO WORK WITH THEM TAUGHT ME A LOT OF JUST WHAT IT MEANS TO BE PART OF THIS PROGRAM AND TO CARRY THAT LEGACY ON. THAT LEGACY CONTINUES NOT JUST WITH HER GROWING UP. IT WAS ALWAYS LIKE A BIG DREAM OF LIKE EVERY SWIMMER TO JUST GO TO THIS MEET. BUT WITH TOMMY HAGER, I WAS JUST SUPER EXCITED. I TOUCHED THE WALL AND I LOOKED UP. I SAW IT, I WAS THERE WITH MY CLUB COACH AND MARGO HEAD COACH HERE. A FRESHMAN, HAGER QUALIFIED BEFORE GETTING TO TUSCALOOSA, WHERE HE鈥橲 BEEN TERRIFIC THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. MY TEAMMATES HAVE REALLY BROUGHT THE ENERGY TO HELP THE WHOLE TEAM, JUST JUST TRAINING ALONGSIDE EVERYONE AT ALABAMA HAS REALLY BEEN A BIG PART. THAT鈥橲 REALLY LIKE STEPPED UP MY SWIMMING, SEEING LIKE THE NEW GENERATION OF ALABAMA SWIMMING AND DIVING, STEPPING UP LIKE THAT IS JUST SOMETHING THAT鈥橲 REALLY SPECIAL AND REALLY COOL. AND I鈥橫 JUST SO EXCITED FOR THESE GUYS IS IT鈥橲 LIKE, YOU KNOW, THEIR FIRST TIME GOING AND I THINK IT鈥橲 JUST GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT THEY鈥橰E GOING TO REMEMBER FOREVER. NOW THIS PAIR LOOKS TO MAKE ITS DREAMS COME TRUE. IT鈥橲 EVERYBODY鈥橲 DREAM TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THE OLYMPICS AS A SWIMMER. AND I, I THINK THAT WOULD BE A REALLY BIG MOMENT FOR ME AND FOR LIKE THE TEAM JUST REPRESENTING THE SCRIPT, A ON THE NATION STAGE IS JUST SOMETHING THAT I THINK IS ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL THINGS YOU CAN DO AS

For Kailyn Winter, it's the culmination of thousands of laps."Oh my gosh, I鈥檓 just like over the moon right now. This is such an exciting time not only for me, but just the team," Winter said.The clock is ticking, getting closer to the U.S. Olympic trials. It's the second trip for Winter, who at 18, took sixth. "Just to return to that is something that鈥檚 been really motivating me throughout this season, and it's been something that鈥檚 really like inspired me to keep pushing even when times are hard," Winter said. >> How to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics: Key dates, times, detailsAt that trials, she got to be around fellow Alabama swimmers Rhyan White and Kensey McMahon."Getting to work with them taught me a lot of just what it means to be part of this program and to carry that legacy on,鈥� Winter said.That legacy continues not just with her, but with Tommy Hagar. "Growing up it was always, like, a big dream of every swimmer to go to this meet," Hagar said. Hagar qualified before getting to Tuscaloosa, where he's had a strong freshman season. "Just seeing the new generation of Alabama swimming and diving stepping up like that is something that鈥檚 really special and really cool. Now, this pair looks to make its dreams come true.

"It's everybody's dream to be able to make the Olympics as a swimmer, and I think that would be a really big moment for me and for the team," Hagar said.

While doing it, they'll continue the Alabama legacy set before them.

"Just representing the script A on the nation's stage is just something that I think is one of the most special things you can do as a student-athlete," Winter said.
