Petition: Replace Louisiana Confederate statues with Britney Spears statues
A new petition is calling on state leaders to replace Confederate statues in New Orleans with ones of pop star Britney Spears.
, has more than 1,300 signatures and is addressed to Gov. John Bel Edwards and other state leaders.
"Do the right thing: Replace the Confederate statues with an actual Louisiana hero and influential human being, Britney Spears," the petition reads.
There are many public discussions over Confederate monuments after the violent incident in Charlottesville, Virginia. In New Orleans, four Confederate monuments were removed, but replacements have not been installed.
The petition says Spears, who grew up in Kentwood, Louisiana, is worthy of having statutes of herself in New Orleans for her contributions to Hurricane Katrina relief programs and for donating money to Louisiana schools.
"Not only has Britney proven her talent, but she's proven her strength of character by not only overcoming (a) highly publicized mental breakdown, but by continuously working toward improving herself," the petition reads.
