In a year poised for portable tunes, the compact disc became readily available in 1986. The first iterations weren鈥檛 cheap though.One reporter visited a tech show in 1986 and explored the new inventions hitting the market. A boom box that could play CDs and cassettes was one of the highlights. It promised big sound and cost big money. It was priced at $599.95, which is roughly $1,680 in 2024.Another big invention that wasn鈥檛 so large in size was the portable CD-player. This 鈥渉andy-dandy鈥� device could fit in a pocket and let you listen to music on the go. It would only set you back $260 in 1986.
