In 1985, reporter Jody Davis took a poetic approach to capture the majesty of fans at Derby Day. His entire report unfolded in rhyming limericks.
Davis was particularly inspired by the famous hats on display at Churchill Downs.
鈥淪peaking of hats, we don't have the stats,
but there are hundreds and dozens and scores.
With a horse up on top or a plane with a prop
or a couple of crustaceous claws,鈥� he rhymed.
