Plan your trip using Google My Maps
You鈥檝e likely used for navigation, but do you know about their My Maps feature? The tool lets you create your custom map and drop pins to all the different places you鈥檇 like to visit. It鈥檚 great for planning long road trips and figuring out all the stops you want to take along the way. You can also share your custom map with others and view it on your phone, so everyone has their itinerary in the palm of their hand. You can find My Maps by going to Google Maps on your desktop, clicking Saved, then Maps, then Open My Maps.
Convert your cupholder into a phone mount without sacrificing space
How often do you throw your phone in the cupholder when you鈥檙e driving? Instead, try using a combination cup and phone holder. We tested we found on Amazon for $19.99. You can use these to mount your phone without taking up space in your cupholder 鈥 so you still have somewhere to put your drinks.
Make a tablet holder using a plastic bag
Turn the backseat of your car into a movie theater for the kids using stuff you probably already have at home. Grab a freezer bag (we used a 2.5 gallon), take the headrest off your front seat, then line up the bag and poke two holes where the headrest connects. Put the headrest back in, place your tablet in the plastic bag, and now you have a DIY tablet holder.
It鈥檚 also always a good idea to keep a first aid kit in your car for long road trips. Pack it with things like bandages, hand sanitizer, medication 鈥 anything you could need in case accidents happen.
