"It was horrible," Staben said.

Staben had COVID-19 in November.

In January, sister station KETV interviewed him about his long-hauler symptoms.

"Instead of brain fog it's just like a waking delirium because one minute I鈥檒l be fine and the next minute I start to zone out and it feels like I鈥檓 in a haze,鈥 Staben said in January.

The artist and writer lost his ability to focus.

Staben said he spent months searching for answers with no luck, until Thursday.

鈥淚t took a very long time, a lot of doctor visits, and I think the vaccine is the one that has helped me the most,鈥 Staben said.

He said days after getting the vaccine, the brain fog started to wear off.

"A lot sharper, a lot more alert I guess I would say,鈥 Staben said. "Friday is when I noticed I started to feel a little better and Saturday I was like, 'Oh, I鈥檓 feeling a little more like I used to.'"

Nebraska Medicine Dr. Mark Rupp said there is evidence the vaccine helps long haulers.

"If they get vaccinated, there are at least some anecdotal reports that they're seeing a diminution in those symptoms. So, again, another good reason to get vaccinated," Rupp said.

Staben said he's proof. He was finally able to sit down and write part of his second book Sunday.

鈥淚t meant a ton to me and I was a little emotional,鈥 Staben said.

He said he's excited for his second shot and to get back to his old self.

"It鈥檚 been a huge weight just tossed off my shoulders."
