Everything you need to know about 'This Is Us' season 4

Other than that it will make us sob, of course.

After the midseason finale of "This Is Us," fans are already distracted thinking about season four and where the Pearson saga will go next. What will Jack do to make fans love him even more than they thought was possible? What will fans learn about Future Tess in the flash-forwards? Will NBC finally launch a spinoff that's literally just old seasons of "The Manny?" OK, so that last one is probably a no, but the first two are valid. Until fans get real answers, here's everything we actually do know about season four to tide you over until then. 1. This is the first time in two years fans had to wait to find out if "This Is Us" is renewed. This isn't exactly a season four spoiler, but it's worth mentioning because, technically, there isn't officially a season four in the works to spoil. As fans probably remember, NBC took a huge leap of faith on "This Is Us" halfway through its first season when it renewed the freshman drama for not one, but two additional seasons. 2. If it does get picked up for a fourth season (which it probably will), series creator Dan Fogelman already knows what will happen. In a September 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fogelman revealed that he already had the first four seasons planned out by the time he pitched the pilot. "When you're making a television show, you don't even know that it's going to get picked up, let alone become this giant thing that gets out of control, nor what people are going to respond to," Fogelman said. "So we had a plan from day one. I delivered the script for the pilot, and I also had a pitch for the next four seasons of the show." 3. Season four will probably revolve around a brand new mystery. While "This Is Us" dedicated its first two seasons to the mystery of Jack Pearson's cause of death, this year's mystery, the identity of "her," will reportedly be wrapped up by the end of this season. "I think we can guess really. The plan is in the course of the season you will get a lot of answers," Fogelman said during a panel discussion in Los Angeles in September. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to get it in little doses and you鈥檙e going to get your answers. We鈥檙e not going to string it out over seven seasons. People will get their answer," he added, implying that the answer would come this season. And, yeah, he knows who "her" is 鈥 he's not just making this up as he goes along.鈥淚 swear on Oprah I do know who 鈥榟er鈥 is,鈥 Fogelman promised. 鈥淚鈥檇 better!鈥漇ince it wouldn't be "This Is Us" without a decades-spanning twist, we should expect something new to obsess over in season four.4. Beth definitely won't die. "This Is Us" is great at tugging at heartstrings and turning fans' tear ducts into flood zones. And speaking of the mysterious "her," that season two finale flash-forward to Adult Tess and Older Randall had fans terrified that Beth was dead and it was "her" grave they had to visit. Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Beth, has already promised fans 鈥 and her own mom 鈥 that her character doesn't die. "My mom was like, 'I鈥檓 not going to watch this show next season.' I was like, 鈥榃hy?鈥 She鈥檚 like, 'Because they鈥檙e going to kill you, and I don鈥檛 like it.' And I was like, 鈥楳om, they鈥檙e not going to kill me!鈥" Watson told Entertainment Weekly. "Dan (Fogelman) and I spoke about it 鈥 they鈥檙e not going to kill Beth. She鈥檚 going to survive. It feels good to know."That means that Beth's survival is officially one of the only sad story lines we can rule out for the show's fourth season (and beyond).
