Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has filed a defamation lawsuit against 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
The lawsuit focuses on Clinton鈥檚 comments in October that Russia was 鈥済rooming鈥 a Democratic presidential candidate, saying, 鈥淪he鈥檚 a favorite of the Russians.鈥
"I'm not making any predictions, but I think they've got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate," Clinton said, with David Plouffe, a former adviser to President Barack Obama.
While Clinton didn鈥檛 target Gabbard by name, the Congresswoman from Hawaii was one of five women in the race for president at that time 鈥 Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Marianne Williamson were the others 鈥 and the only one who has been accused of being boosted by Russia, according to a report from the .
The lawsuit, which was filed in New York, alleges Clinton 鈥渄eliberately and maliciously made false statements in an attempt to derail Rep. Gabbard鈥檚 campaign, by alleging that Gabbard is a 鈥楻ussian asset.鈥欌
Gabbard鈥檚 lawyers are seeking compensatory damages and an injunction banning further publication of Clinton鈥檚 statements made on an October podcast.
