Woman gets caught by local news applying for other jobs... while on break
Ja鈥橬aea Modest just wanted to apply for other jobs as another option. Little did she know that the job fair she went to would be broadcasting her keeping her options open for the public to see including her current employer.
Modest, 33, she currently works at a nonprofit for mental and physical disabilities in Chicago, Illinois.
She is moving soon and needs to save up money, so she decided to attend a local job fair.
"I love my job but I'm trying to move so I need some money," she told Buzzfeed News.
Modest said she tried to attend the job fair discreetly, but fate had other plans.
Some of the companies there asked her to apply at the fair, so she did.
"I was focused on the application 鈥 I did not know [the local news] was there. I had no idea what was going on 鈥 I came back, changed my clothes, and did the rest of my shift," she said.
She said she left not long after and went back to work thinking nothing of it. It wasn鈥檛 until after her shift that she even realized her secret was out.
Modest said her friend鈥檚 dad called her and informed her she was featured on the news for the job fair. Because he jokes with her frequently, Modest said she didn鈥檛 believe it at first.
"He jokes a lot ... and said, 'They have a nice picture of you on TV right now!' And I said, 'What are you talking about?' and he said, 'No, I'm dead serious,' and he pushes play, and there I am,鈥 she told Buzzfeed News.
She figured that because of the cameo on the local news, her current employers would know she was searching for another job. So, she took to Facebook to clear the air and make light of the situation.
She wrote, "So I didn't want My current job to know I was looking for another job. why the d--- news filmed me at the job fair. Smh."
Now her post has more than 47,000 shares and more than 8,000 comments.
Thankfully there haven鈥檛 been negative repercussions from her current job. She said some coworkers have even joked with her about the situation.
Modest told Buzzfeed News she is using the attention to benefit her current job. She is planning a and hopes she can get the word out after going viral.
"Well, guess this is my time," she said. "Everything happens for a reason."
