'God puts you in places': Leeds teacher calls 911 after school is struck by lightning, catches fire
CHANGES AND GETS CLOSER TO YOU. TONIGHT, LEEDS CITY SCHOOLS SAYS IT鈥橲 GOING TO TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS TO GET ONE SCHOOL BACK ON TRACK. YEAH, NOW A SECTION OF THE LEEDS PRIMARY SCHOOL CAUGHT FIRE OVER THE WEEKEND. NOW, THIS IS A STORY THAT WE FIRST BROUGHT TO YOU FRIDAY NIGHT. OFFICIALS WITH LEEDS PRIMARY SCHOOL BELIEVE THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE. 米兰体育 13 IS AARON LLEWELLYN JOINS US LIVE IN LOCAL AFTER SEEING THE DAMAGE. AARON, WHAT HAS TO BE DONE BEFORE THEY CAN OPEN THE SCHOOL BACK UP? YEAH. JARVIS THERE IS A LOT OF WORK THAT HAS TO BE DONE TO GET THIS SCHOOL BEHIND ME BACK OPEN BEFORE THE STUDENTS RETURN TO SCHOOL IN AUGUST. NOW, IT鈥橲 HARD TO TELL EXACTLY WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE BECAUSE THE DAMAGE IS STILL BEING LOOKED AT. BUT STAFF HERE SAY THAT THEY ARE JUST GRATEFUL IT WASN鈥橳 WORSE. IT WAS LIKE, ARE MY EYES DECEIVING ME AT THIS POINT? BUT JOANNA HUDSON SAW EXACTLY WHAT SHE THOUGHT SHE DID. AS I WAS LEAVING, I LOOKED DOWN TOWARDS KINDERGARTEN HALLWAY AND IT LOOKED REALLY LIKE FOGGY DOWN THERE AND I THOUGHT, WHAT IS THAT? SMOKE FILLED THE HALLWAY OF THE LEEDS PRIMARY SCHOOL. THE BUILDING CATCHING FIRE AFTER IT WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING DURING FRIDAY鈥橲 STORMS. THESE ARE THINGS. THESE ARE ALL THINGS THAT WE CAN REPLACE. A BUILDING CAN BE FIXED AND WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR. THAT DOESN鈥橳 MEAN WE DON鈥橳 HAVE A INTERESTING SUMMER AHEAD OF US. MARY BETH LOCKRIDGE, WHO WORKS FOR THE SCHOOL SYSTEM, SAYS FOUR DIFFERENT FIRE DEPARTMENTS CAME TO HELP PUT THE FIRE OUT. IT WAS INCREDIBLE TO WATCH, TO GET IT ALL UNDER CONTROL. BUT YOU CAN IMAGINE THAT MUCH WATER BEING PUMPED INTO A BUILDING FOR THAT LONG. IT鈥橲 LEFT US WITH A MESS. HUDSON SAYS SEEING THE BUILDING SHE LOVES SO MUCH BURN WAS HARD. BUT LOSING PRECIOUS MEMENTOS IN THE DAMAGE IS THE HARDEST PART. BUT YOU HAVE THANK YOU NOTES FROM CHILDREN. YOU HAVE COLORING PAGES FROM CHILDREN. SORRY, I鈥橫 A BIG BABY. YOU HAVE THINGS THAT YOU KNOW, PICTURES AND SNAPSHOTS IN AND THANK YOU NOTES AND GIFTS THAT CHILDREN HAVE GIVEN YOU OVER THE YEARS. AND THOSE ARE IRREPLACEABLE. SEEING THE COMMUNITY RUSH TO HELP OUT DURING THE CLOSE KNIT COMMUNITIES DIFFICULT TIME IS MAKING THE LOSS EASIER. WE鈥橵E BEEN OVERWHELMED WITH THE AMOUNT OF SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY, FROM CHURCHES AND THINGS LIKE THAT WHERE WE鈥橵E HAD TO SAY, OKAY, GIVE US A MINUTE, LET鈥橲 BREATHE A LITTLE BIT. LET鈥橲 KIND OF FIGURE OUT WHAT鈥橲 GOING ON AND WHAT DO WE NEED. HUDSON SAYS SHE鈥橲 JUST HAPPY SHE WAS AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME TO CALL FOR HELP. I THINK GOD PUTS YOU IN PLACES THAT MAYBE YOU DON鈥橳 QUITE UNDERSTAND, BUT THERE鈥橲 THERE鈥橲 A REASON FOR THOSE THINGS. BUT, YOU KNOW, MAYBE, MAYBE IT RAINED BECAUSE I DIDN鈥橳 NEED TO LEAVE. BECAUSE WE KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. NOW, HUDSON SAYS THAT SHE IS NOT A HERO BY ANY MEANS. SHE SAYS THAT SHE DIDN鈥橳 DO ANYTHING THAT HER COWORKERS WOULDN鈥橳 HAVE DONE, WHICH WAS CALL 911. NOW, THE SCHOOL WAS SUPPOSED TO START A LITERARY CAMP TODAY, BUT THEY HAD TO MOVE THAT TO A DIFFERENT BUILDING BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE HERE AT THIS ONE. LIVE HERE I
