Sen. Tommy Tuberville considering Alabama gubernatorial run, will 'probably' make decision in May

Sen. Tommy Tuberville considering Alabama gubernatorial run, will 'probably' make decision in May
You made some news over the recess. Are you going to run for governor? Well, I'm considering it. Uh, my wife and I and family, we've sat down once and we really talked hard about it. I want to do what's best for the people of Alabama. Is it here or is it in the governor's seat back in Montgomery? Uh, I'll probably make my decision sometimes in, in May. *** lot of people have jumped the gun on it. Uh, I'm talking to President Trump about it. Hopefully I'll get to this week. We're going to, uh. Uh, Tuscaloosa to, uh, *** commencement exercise he's gonna speak at, but, uh, you know, I, I just want to do what's best, you know, I like it up here. Uh, I, I think we can get something done, but can I get more done in Montgomery? We'll see. Yeah, so you, you have not spoken to Trump yet, but you plan to speak to. Yeah, oh yeah, we'll speak about it. Uh, and so what are you weighing? What factors are you weighing? Well, just look and see, you know what best fits Alabama. Can I go back there and get more done there on *** different level? I know *** lot of people up here now. That's the good thing. You, you find out how this place works and then you're, if you, if I do go back to the governorship in, in Alabama, then the opportunity to know people here, have good communication, know President Trump, uh. I think that's *** big benefit, but, but also we can do *** lot up here, so we'll just wait and see. Is the leadership urging you to stay here? the Senate Republican leadership urging you to stay? Well, they, they all say, hey, do what's best, what you think for you and your family and and the state again, we represent the country, but we, we certainly just represent the state and the constituents that sent us up here. So, um, you know, there's *** lot of work to do. We got to get *** lot of work done in the next year and *** half, no matter what happens. I'm still, still here for another uh. 19 months and so *** lot of work to be done. It sounds like you're leaning towards it. Is that fair? Well, I would, I would say probably this time and I've told people that, you know, if I did it today, I'm leaning in that direction. There's *** lot of people I've talked to. I'm going to talk to people in Montgomery. I'm going to talk to people here, President Trump, I'll talk to the leadership here. I've just gotten to the point of just thinking about it. Now the two weeks that I was out, I did talk to people that really, uh, uh, can give you *** good opinion of, of what you can do and how you can do it. So, uh, next few weeks will be the tail and tail, but it'll be sometime in May. I'll make *** phone call before Memorial Day.
