Calera city councilor demands quicker response to power outages
A Calera city council member says more needs to be done to restore power during outages.
Council Member Kay Turner told 米兰体育 13 that when storms hit, the power is often knocked out and areas such as Emerald Ridge and Camden Park appear to be on the back end of getting restored.

During the most recent outage, Turner claims multiple residents reached out to her demanding answers because the heat was too much to bear for people who have medical issues.
"We have citizens that contacted me in our area that have children with asthma," said Turner, "We have individuals that are on oxygen and they're losing food which is money because the insurance does not cover the loss."
More than 133,000 people were without power from the storms last weekend across Alabama.

Anthony Cook from Alabama Power is responding to Turner's claims. He says that restoring the power for medical institutions and first responders is their top priority.
"We prioritize our storm restoration, and we start with health care facilities that's at the top of our list," said Cook, "So if we have customers who have lifesaving medical equipment in their home, we recommend that they reach out to us and let us know that they have those situations and they can reach out to us through customer service or through one of our local business offices."
Alabama Power also encourages customers to keep batteries and stay tuned into their local media partners when outages strike.
