Filibustering prolongs last day of Alabama's legislative session

Filibustering prolongs last day of Alabama's legislative session
TODAY MARKS THE END OF 30 DAYS OF ACTION AT THE STATE HOUSE, AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT COULD BE A VERY LONG DAY. 米兰体育 13 LISA CRANE LIVE IN LOCAL AT THE STATE HOUSE. NOW. WHAT鈥橲 HAPPENING THERE? LISA? WELL, A LOT OF TALKING, FILIBUSTERING, ACTUALLY. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOME HARD FEELINGS TODAY. AND IT SEEMS LIKE SB 330 CREATED AT LEAST SOME OF THOSE FEELINGS THAT THAT ACTUALLY TURNED THE BIRMINGHAM WATER WORKS BOARD INTO A REGIONAL AUTHORITY. IT鈥橲 DRIVEN A WEDGE BETWEEN LAWMAKERS FROM PARTY LINES. RIGHT NOW, STATE SENATORS ARE TRYING TO PLOW THROUGH DOZENS OF BILLS. THOSE ONLY AFFECT ONE COUNTY OR MAYBE ONE CITY, AND TYPICALLY THOSE MOVE THROUGH PRETTY QUICKLY. BUT NOT TODAY. DEMOCRATIC STATE SENATOR BOBBY SINGLETON SAID HE WOULD FILIBUSTER TO STRETCH THOSE OUT AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, UNLESS HIS BILL TO CHANGE THE GAMBLING LAWS IN GREENE COUNTY MOVED FORWARD. THAT WAS SB 90 THAT STALLED IN THE SENATE. NOW, ASK ONE STATE REPRESENTATIVE FROM EACH PARTY ABOUT THE WATERWORKS ISSUE. THERE WAS A LOT OF. STRONG FEELINGS ON BOTH SIDES. ON MY SIDE, BECAUSE IT WAS A SYSTEM THAT SERVED 775,000 PEOPLE. CITY OF BIRMINGHAM HAS 195,000 NOW, AND THEY HAD TREMENDOUS PROBLEMS. FORTUNATELY, AT THE END OF THE OF THE SESSION. SO HOPEFULLY THAT A LITTLE BIT OF THE ANGST AND ANGER, FRANKLY, OF THAT MAY WEIGH OFF. WE鈥橰E OFF A LITTLE BIT IN THE OFF SEASON AND WE HAVE A CHANCE TO TALK BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, IT鈥橲 REALLY HARD TO TALK WITH PEOPLE SCREAMING AT EACH OTHER. AND I THINK WE鈥橰E AT THAT POINT. NOW WITH THE FILIBUSTERING HAS TAKEN ABOUT A HALF HOUR TO GET THROUGH ONE BILL. AND STATE SENATOR SINGLETON HAS PLEDGED TO GO AS LONG AS HE CAN, MAYBE UP UNTIL MIDNIGH
