Housing authority renovating old Loveman Village Daycare
THESE PROGRAMS. TONIGHT, SOME ALABAMA PARENTS ARE STRUGGLING TO FIND CHILDCARE, AND IT鈥橲 LIKELY CAUSING THEM TO ALTER THEIR PLANS TO PROVIDE. ACCORDING TO THE MOST RECENT DATA FROM THE ORGANIZATION, VOICES FOR ALABAMA鈥橲 CHILDREN, OVER 19% OF PARENTS HAD TO MISS WORK DUE TO NOT HAVING CHILDCARE IN 2021. THAT NUMBER WAS THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE FOR MUCH OF THE SOUTHEAST, BUT RIGHT NOW, THERE ARE PLANS IN BIRMINGHAM THAT COULD HELP CLOSE THAT GAP. 米兰体育 13 JARVIS ROBERTSON GOT A CHANCE TO LOOK AT A NEW DAYCARE, HOPING TO OPEN UP LATER THIS YEAR. HOW ARE THEY PREPARING TO MEET THIS NEED? JARVIS. WELL, GUYS, WE鈥橰E TALKING ABOUT THE OLD LOVEMAN VILLAGE DAYCARE. IT CLOSED BACK IN 2019, LEAVING MANY OF THE FAMILIES IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD TO GO ELSEWHERE FOR CHILD CARE. NOW, THE APARTMENTS AROUND THE FACILITY, THEY鈥橵E ALL BEEN RENOVATED AND NOW GOES BY THE NAME OF THE VILLAS AT TITUSVILLE. ONE THING鈥橲 FOR SURE, WHEN THIS DAYCARE REOPENS A LITTLE BIT LATER THIS YEAR, THOSE FAMILIES IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD WILL HAVE ACCESS TO CHILD CARE WITHOUT EVER LEAVING THEIR COMMUNITIES. RIGHT NOW, THIS BUILDING SITS EMPTY WITH OLD MEMORIES AND WHAT ONCE WAS FOR SO MANY FAMILIES, CHILDCARE CAN BE AN ISSUE FOR SOME PARENTS WORKING NONTRADITIONAL HOURS. THE COST OR NOT KNOWING WHO THEY CAN TRUST WITH THEIR CHILD. HOWEVER, THE HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR THE BIRMINGHAM DISTRICT IS HOPING TO CHANGE THAT BY RENOVATING THE OLD LOVEMAN VILLAGE DAYCARE. ONE OF THE MISSIONS OF HOUSING AUTHORITY IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE鈥橰E GIVING QUALITY AND AFFORDABLE CARE AND ALSO MAKING SURE THAT THAT ANY BARRIERS THAT OUR RESIDENTS HAVE, THEY鈥橰E ABLE TO, YOU KNOW, HAVE A PLACE FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO ATTEND. WITH NEW OWNERSHIP AND PARTNERSHIP, CHILD CARE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE NEXT LEVEL. FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE VILLAS AT TITUSVILLE, BY EXPOSING YOUNG MINDS TO EDUCATION BEFORE KINDERGARTEN. THIS WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF STUDENTS FROM FOUR MONTHS TO PRE-K, AND IT WILL BE RUN BY THE BIRMINGHAM CITY SCHOOLS TO HELP OUT WITH DEVELOPMENT. WE ALSO SPOKE TO ONE OF THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES HELPING WITH THE RENOVATIONS. MARCUS MITCHELL SAYS THIS IS A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO TAKING CARE OF THE COMMUNITY. WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE LOVEMAN PROJECT HERE, IT鈥橲 SO MUCH HISTORY HERE. IT鈥橲 SO MUCH PASSION HERE. BEING ABLE TO WORK NOT ONLY WITH WITH THE HOUSING AUTHORITY, BUT JUST PARTNERING UP WITH THE COMMUNITY, BEING ABLE TO BRING THIS MUCH NEEDED RESOURCE BACK TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD WILL MEET A NEED. THERE WAS A SLIGHT VOID BECAUSE RESIDENTS DID HAVE TO GO TO OTHER DAYCARE CENTERS THAT THEIR, YOU KNOW, PRIVY TO TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE ADEQUATE ENOUGH CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN. NOW, ACCORDING TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY, THE RENOVATIONS ARE COMING IN AT $2.6 MILLION. BACK IN OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR, CONGRESSWOMAN TERRI SEWELL, SHE DID PRESENT THE AGENCY WITH A CHECK FOR $1 MILLION. THOSE RENOVATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED SOMETIME IN OCTOBER. REPORTING LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM TONIGHT.
