As summer begins to wind to a close, the threat of Lyme disease remains prevalent.According to the Washington Post, every state and the District of Columbia has residents who have tested positive for the tick-borne illness. The paper reports a clinic laboratory, Quest Diagnostics, analyzed 6 million blood tests and determined the state with the highest number of cases is Pennsylvania. According to Quest鈥檚 findings, 10,001 cases of Lyme disease were found in the Keystone State last year. Combined with numbers from six New England states 鈥� Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont 鈥� it was found that 60 percent of the country鈥檚 Lyme disease cases were found in those seven states. The Post reports cases of Lyme disease have spiked across the country. In Florida, a state not commonly associated with Lyme, positive tests have risen 77 percent since 2015. California is seeing a 194.5 percent increase in the same time frame.
