'It鈥檚 going to be a notch above': Live Nation opens up about Birmingham's new Coca-Cola Amphitheater
$50 MILLION PROJECT. THIS IS THE LATEST LOOK INSIDE THE UPCOMING COCA-COLA AMPHITHEATER, JUST TWO WEEKS BEFORE ITS GRAND OPENING. LIVE NATION WILL MANAGE THE 9000 SEAT VENUE. TODAY WE TALKED TO LIVE NATION鈥橲 JAY WILSON ABOUT HIS VISION FOR THE PROJECT, WHICH HE CLAIMS BEGAN EIGHT YEARS AGO. I HAVE A FEELING THAT WE鈥橰E GOING TO BLINK OUR EYES, AND IN THREE YEARS WE鈥橰E GOING TO LOOK UP AND IT鈥橲 GOING TO LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO THE RAILROAD PARK, REGIONS FIELD HOW THAT ENTIRE AREA HAS GROWN. OUTSIDE THE AMPHITHEATER, LANDSCAPING AND ROAD CREWS ARE PUTTING THE FINISHING TOUCHES TO HELP TRANSFORM THE SPACE. ONCE HOME TO MEDICAL OFFICES. SO WE ASKED WILSON WHAT KIND OF ELEVATED EXPERIENCES SHOULD THE VENUE鈥橲 VISITORS EXPECT? HE DID NOT HESITATE TO MENTION THE AMPHITHEATER CUISINE. FROM DELUXE BURGERS TO SIGNATURE COCKTAILS, HE BELIEVES PATRONS ARE IN FOR A SPECIAL NIGHT OUT. IT鈥橲 GOING TO BE A NOTCH ABOVE TO WHERE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GO, WOW, THAT鈥橲 THAT鈥橲 JUST NOT YOUR NORMAL FAIRFIELD. ONE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS WE鈥橵E SEEN ABOUT THE NEW PROJECT IS PARKING. BUT WHAT THESE TWO DECKS OF STONES THROW FROM THE FRONT GATE, PLUS TEN MORE NEARBY SURFACE LOTS. WILSON BELIEVES GETTING TO A SHOW WILL BE A BREEZE. THEY鈥橰E LIT, SAFE, SECURE. MANNED. AND IT鈥橲, YOU KNOW, 5 TO 8 MINUTES TO GET TO THE FRONT DOOR OF THE AMPHITHEATER. BUT THE CONCERT BOWLS, BREAD AND BUTTER WILL BE THE ACTS. IT HOSTS. FIVE IN THE FIRST WEEK, NEARLY 30 IN THE AMPHITHEATER鈥橲 INAUGURAL SEASON. A LOT OF LEGENDS, A LOT OF HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES, AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF GENRES. SO WE FEEL GREAT ABOUT THIS FIRST YEAR AND AND WE鈥橪L SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT YEAR. COMEDIAN MATT RIFE IS UP FIRST IN JUST 16 DAY

Friday, we sat down with Live Nation's Jay Wilson to talk about his vision for the project, which he claims began eight years ago.

鈥淚 have a feeling that we're going to blink our eyes, and in three years we're going to look up and it's going to look very similar to the railroad park, region's field, how that entire area has grown,鈥 Wilson said.

Outside the amphitheater, landscaping and road crews are putting the finishing touches to help transform the space, once home to medical offices.

When asked what kind of elevated experiences the venue's visitors should expect, Wilson did not hesitate to mention the amphitheater's cuisine.

From deluxe smash burgers to German bratwursts and signature cocktails, he believes patrons are in for a special night out.

鈥淚t's going to be a notch above to where people are going to be, like, wow. That's not your normal fair food,鈥 Wilson said.

One of the biggest questions we've seen about the new project is about parking.

However, with two decks a stone's throw from the front gate, plus 10 more nearby surface lots, Wilson believes getting to a show will be a breeze.

鈥淭hey're lit safe, secure, manned. And it's, you know, five to eight minutes to get to the front door of the amphitheater,鈥 Wilson said.

The concert bowl's bread and butter, though, will be the acts it hosts.

There will be five shows in the first week, with nearly thirty in the Coca-Cola Amphitheater鈥檚 inaugural season.

鈥淎 lot of legends, a lot of Hall of Fame inductees and a lot of different kinds of genres. So, we feel great about this first year, and we'll see what happens next year,鈥 Wilson said.
