Man sues Apple after he says phone exploded in pocket
A South Carolina man has filed a lawsuit against Apple after his iPhone exploded in his pocket, which he said caused severe burns to his body.
In a lawsuit filed this week, Ronnie Portee, of Sumter, South Carolina, said he underwent five surgeries since the incident, .
In October 2016, Portee ended a phone call and placed the iPhone 6 in his pocket. He then felt 鈥渆xtreme heat,鈥� according to the lawsuit, burning his flesh and clothing.
The explosion caused injuries so severe that he was airlifted to a hospital that has a burn center.
鈥淎s a result of his iPhone explosion ... (Portee) will continue to suffer both physically and emotionally for the rest of his life,鈥� according to the suit. 鈥淢r. Portee also has to live with the permanent scarring he suffered.鈥�
Portee is seeking damages in excess of $75,000.
