Characters from “SpongeBob SquarePants" made a cameo during the Super Bowl halftime show.A clip featuring animated characters such as SpongeBob and Squidward Tentacles was used to transition from main performer Maroon 5 to featured performer Travis Scott early in the set. A fan of "SpongeBob SquarePants" started an online petition to the NFL to perform the David Glen Eisley song “Sweet Victory�� at the Super Bowl halftime show as a tribute to the show's late creator Stephen Hillenburg.The song was featured in a 2001 episode of the animated television series called "Band Geeks," where SpongeBob and his friends played the halftime show of the "Bubble Bowl." “As some of you may or may not know, Stephen Hillenburg—the creator of Spongebob Sqaurepants—has passed away recently,�� the petition reads. “As a tribute to his legacy, his contributions to a generation of children, and to truly showcase the greatness of this song, we call for Sweet Victory to be performed at the Halftime Show.”Hillenburg died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in November.The petition had over 1.2 million signatures on Sunday.The song "Sweet Victory" was not performed during the Super Bowl halftime show.
