The Birmingham firefighter who survived a shooting at Station 9 has been promoted to the rank of sergeant.On Friday, Birmingham fire Chief Cory Moon announced that firefighter Jamal Jones had been selected for promotion, sighting his embodiment of the department's mission to "provide excellence through service.""We are truly proud of him (Jones) and we are thankful for his service to the city of Birmingham," Moon said. "Every member of the Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service stands with Sergeant Jones and we continue to pray for his recovery."Jones, who returned home from the hospital Tuesday, was injured after a man entered Birmingham's Station 9 and shot him on July 12.Firefighter Jordan Melton, who was also shot during the incident, died from his injuries on July 17.So far, no arrests have been made.
