While HGTV has a track record of turning its show hosts into minor celebrities (ahem, Chip and Jo, the Property Brothers ...), the network will now get the opportunity to turn a well-known (and well-loved) celebrity into a TV show host. The home and garden network recently announced that Jonathan Knight, of boy band New Kids On The Block fame, will be starring in a new TV show pilot called “Farmhouse Fixer.�� Knight shared the news on his personal Instagram account earlier this month, posting a photo of a headline with the announcement. He captioned the photo: “It’s been an amazing journey getting here. Looking forward to sharing this pilot with everyone.�� Viewers will get to follow Knight as he works to renovate a “centuries-old New England farmhouse,�� preserving “the historic charm�� while adding “a modern layout with high-end amenities,�� according to the press release. If this sounds like an attempt to tie a random celebrity to a new reality TV show to garner attention, it’s not. In the past 20 years since the band originally called it quits, Knight has apparently been pretty busy becoming a renovation expert: According to the press release, he has renovated more than 200 homes. He especially has a passion for working on old houses, which he regularly documents on Instagram.“Old farmhouses are American treasures,�� Knight said in the network’s statement. “Most have been in the same family for 200 years and have never been renovated. And they’re disappearing fast. If we don’t save them, they’re going to be gone.�� Of HGTV’s most popular current shows, none are based in New England and most don’t focus on the restoration of antique properties, so “Farmhouse Fixer�� has the opportunity to carve out a unique place in their lineup �� and with a host that has a built-in fan base to boot.The pilot for “Farmhouse Fixer�� is set to premiere on HGTV in 2019.
