JORDAN MELTON鈥橲 MOTHER HAS BEEN WAITING TO HEAR THAT POLICE HAD MADE AN ARREST IN HER SON鈥橲 DEATH FOR 19 LONG MONTHS, AND SHE TOLD ME TODAY, HEARING THAT NEWS IS BITTERSWEET, AND SHE WANTS TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE REMEMBER JORDAN FOR WHO HE WAS IN LIFE AND NOT HOW HE DIED. HE WAS A VIBRANT, LOVING. SELFLESS INDIVIDUAL WHO DEVOTED HIS TIME TO HELPING OTHER PEOPLE. HE HAD AN INFECTIOUS SMILE THAT COULD WARM UP ANY DARK PLACE, AND SO PRAYERFULLY, I鈥橪L BE ABLE TO KEEP HIS MEMORY ALIVE. OF THAT SMILE AND BRING SMILES TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME EXPERIENCES THAT I HAVE. NOW. MALONE TOLD ME TODAY THAT IN ONE OF THE LAST CONVERSATIONS SHE HAD WITH JORDAN BEFORE HE PASSED, HE TOLD HER THAT HE FELT CALLED BY GOD TO TRY TO MENTOR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO MIGHT BE HEADING DOWN THE WRONG PATH. AND OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF, SHE HAS TRIED TO FULFILL HIS MISSION BY CREATING THE JORD

Both firefighters were then rushed to UAB Hospital. She also wants to make sure people remember Jordan for who he was in life and not how he died.鈥淗e was a vibrant, loving, selfless individual who devoted his time to helping other people. And so, prayerfully, I鈥檒l be able to keep his memory alive of that smile and bring smiles to other people that have experienced the same experiences that I have," Rochelle Gaston Malone said.Malone said one of the last conversations she had with her son, he told her he felt God calling him to try to mentor young people who might be headed down the wrong path.
