That wait is finally over.On Tuesday, officials with the Birmingham Police Department announced that they have obtained warrants for mass shooting suspect Damien McDaniel in the murder of Melton as well as the attempted murder of fellow firefighter Jamal Jones.Watch the full news conference below.Melton and Jones were doing routine morning maintenance at Station 9 on July 12, 2023 when a man, believed to be McDaniel, entered through an open bay and opened fire, according to the Birmingham Police Department and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. Both firefighters were then rushed to UAB Hospital. She also wants to make sure people remember Jordan for who he was in life and not how he died.“He was a vibrant, loving, selfless individual who devoted his time to helping other people. He had an infectious smile that could warm up any dark place. And so, prayerfully, I’ll be able to keep his memory alive of that smile and bring smiles to other people that have experienced the same experiences that I have," Rochelle Gaston Malone said.Malone said one of the last conversations she had with her son, he told her he felt God calling him to try to mentor young people who might be headed down the wrong path.
