UPDATE, Wednesday, 12:45 p.m.

Birmingham police are still searching for Kamille McKinney. A report from another media outlet was inaccurate.

"We are thoroughly searching for the whereabouts of The missing 3 year old. We have not yet discovered the location of cupcake despite recent social media post," the Birmingham Police Department said. "We are still in need of your continuous support if you find any information please call us immediately."

A spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office tells 米兰体育 13 that Sheriff Mark Pettway did not report that the kidnapped little girl was found. The sheriff's office later released a statement saying "misinformation" was passed on to a television news employee.

"The Jefferson County Sheriff鈥檚 Office continues to offer our deputies and resources to assist in the case; we are not the lead on this investigation. We will continue to work with the participating law enforcement agencies with the hopes of bringing Kamille 鈥淐upcake鈥� McKinney back home safely to her family."

UPDATE, Wednesday 10:30 a.m.

An active search for 3-year-old Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney is underway on Jefferson Avenue in Birmingham.

A sea of police, including a law enforcement helicopter, swarmed an apartment complex Wednesday morning after receiving a credible tip in the case.

Several family members have gathered at the scene, including the little girl's parents and grandparents.

Charges have been filed against two persons of interest in the investigation into the kidnapping of 3-year-old Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney, Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith announced late Tuesday afternoon.

Patrick Stallworth, 39, is facing several child porn charges. Derick Brown, 29, is being held in jail for probation revocation stemming from a 2018 case.

The two were taken into custody Sunday night in Center Point. An SUV sought by police was also recovered.

Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith on Tuesday asked for the public's help in the search for 3-year-old Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney, who remains missing after being kidnapped in Tom Brown Village Saturday night.

CASH REWARDS FOR TIPS IN KIDNAPPING

Smith and Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr announced two rewards for information in the case. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is offering $5,000 and a private citizen is offering $1,000.

"We're asking because we feel that there are some people on the sidelines who have information that is incredibly important to this investigation that may just be that one piece to close things," Smith said. "So, the most important thing is the involvement of the citizens, those in that community and those around us to make sure things happen when they should."

Smith suggested to people who want to volunteer in the search to visit the Birmingham PD command post first.

UPDATE, Sunday, 8:52 p.m.

Birmingham police said Sunday night that a person of interest in the kidnapping of 3-year-old Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney has been taken into custody for questioning.

"The Birmingham Police Department has made contact with a person of interest who will be questioned by detectives. Police personnel continue to search for Kamille McKinney. Additional information will be released as it becomes available."

Police detained the man at Woodside Condominiums in Center Point. They also located an SUV matching the description of a Toyota Sequoia sought in the investigation. Click here to see video of the Toyota Sequoia being towed away from the scene.

Alicia Renda, who lives in the same condo building as the person of interest detained for questioning, said the man and a woman moved into a unit below hers about a month ago. Renda said when she saw surveillance images of the SUV police were looking for, she knew right away it was her neighbor's.

"I knew exactly, when I saw the picture of him and that vehicle, I was like, 'Those are my neighbors,'" Renda told 米兰体育 13's Chip Scarborough. "And our neighbors knew it too, so they're the ones that actually called the police once they showed the picture of him."

The man in custody has not been identified and a search for the little girl continues.

Birmingham police on Sunday released an updated description and images of the vehicle sought in connection with the kidnapping of 3-year-old Kamille McKinney.

The Birmingham Police Department said its looking for a 2001-2006 blue-green Toyota Sequoia with tan or brown trim. Police said a white woman and black man are believed to be traveling in the SUV and enticing children with candy.

AMBER ALERT ISSUED

An Amber Alert has been issued in Alabama for a 3-year-old girl who was reportedly kidnapped in Birmingham Saturday night.

Kamille 鈥淐upcake鈥� McKinney was last seen Saturday around 8:30 p.m. at a birthday party in the Tom Brown Village public housing community near the Avondale area.

Witnesses told police a woman in a dark SUV drove up, put the child in the vehicle and left. The SUV may be a Toyota 4Runner with a brown bumper and tinted windows.

Police are asking nearby businesses to please check their surveillance footage for possible sightings.

The FBI and US Marshals are assisting in the investigation.

Police are asking anyone who was at the party, at a neighboring home, or in the area and may have seen something, to call 205-254-2793.
