BREAKING WEATHER UPDATE. AS THE COMMUNITY PROCESS PROCESSES THE TRAGIC MASS SHOOTING IN FIVE POINTS SOUTH OVER THE WEEKEND, THE SCLC SAYS THEY鈥橰E TAKING ACTION. 米兰体育 13 LISA CRANE SPOKE TO LEADERS TODAY ABOUT THEIR PLAN. LISA, WHAT DID YOU LEARN? WELL, THEY SAY IT IS TIME FOR FAITH LEADERS TO WALK THE WALK AND NOT JUST THOSE IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY, BUT THEY SAY ALL CHURCHES REALLY NEED TO STEP UP BECAUSE THIS VIOLENCE AFFECTS EVERYONE. AS HORRIFIC AS THE SCENE WAS ON SATURDAY NIGHT OUTSIDE HUSKE LOUNGE, IT WAS NOT NEW. IT WAS THE THIRD MASS SHOOTING THAT CLAIMED FOUR LIVES THIS YEAR IN THE METRO AREA. SOME HAVE CALLED THE RASH OF DEADLY SHOOTINGS A CULTURAL PROBLEM. IT IS A CULTURAL PROBLEM BECAUSE MY BIGGEST FEAR IS FEARING A BLACK MAN THAT LOOKS LIKE ME, AND I SHOULD NOT FEAR THAT, BECAUSE AT ONE POINT IN TIME, AS DOCTOR KING, DREAM WAS, WE STOOD HERE UNITED. BUT WE鈥橰E MORE DIVIDED AGAINST EACH OTHER THAN ANYBODY ELSE AGAINST US IN AMERICA. THE SCLC, ALONG WITH SEVERAL FAITH AND COMMUNITY LEADERS, SPOKE OUT ABOUT THE VIOLENCE. THEY SAY THEY HAVE A PLAN TO TURN THE TIDE BY CONCENTRATING ON THE 12 MOST VIOLENT ZIP CODES IN THE MAGIC CITY. WE鈥橰E GOING TO TAKE THESE BLOCKS ONE BLOCK AT A TIME, AND EVERY CHURCH REPRESENTS A BLOCK OF SAFETY. EVERY BUSINESS REPRESENTS A BLOCK OF SAFETY. WE WANT TO DECLARE THAT RIGHT NOW THAT PEOPLE CAN PROTECT THAT BLOCK AND SPREAD IT OUT TO THE COMMUNITY, AND WE CAN OVERCOME THIS. THEY SAY GETTING OUT OF THE CHURCHES AND INTO THE COMMUNITY IS THE KEY. AND THEY鈥橰E CALLING ON ALL CITY LEADERS TO JOIN THEM. ALL WE鈥橰E ASKING RIGHT NOW IS FOR SUPPORT FROM OUR CITY. SUPPORT FROM CLERGY AND SUPPORT FROM THE FAMILY. AND I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO STOP THIS VIOLENCE. THAT鈥橲 GOING ON IN OUR CITY. They say it's time for faith leaders to walk the walk and not just those in the black community, but they'd like to see all churches step up because they say this violence affects everyone.As horrific as the scene was on outside Hush Lounge, it was not new. It was the third quadruple murder in Birmingham this year. Some have called the rash of deadly shootings a cultural problem. Birmingham resident Brandon Bowers said, 鈥淚t is a culture problem because my biggest fear is fearing a black man that looks like me. And I should not fear that, because at one point in time, as Dr. King dreamed was, we stood here united. But we are more divided against each other than anybody else against us in America.鈥漈he SCLC along with several faith and community leaders spoke out about the violence. They said they have a plan to turn the tide by concentrating on the 12 most violent zip codes in the Magic City. Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Darryl Cunningham, Sr. said, 鈥淲e're going to take these blocks one block at a time. And every church represents a block of safety. Every business represents a block safe. I'm going to claim that right now that people can protect that block and spread it on out to the community. And we can overcome this.鈥漈hey said getting out of the churches and into the community is the key and they're calling on all city leaders to join them. Pastor of Olivet Monumental Baptist Church, Harold W. Bass said, 鈥淎ll we're asking right now is for support from our city, support from clergy, and support from the family and I believe that we'll be able to stop this violence that's going on in our city.鈥�
